Replacing MPPT solarcharger inside easysolar 5kVA

hello folks,
one of my installed easysolar died recently.
after issues with the battery bank, the MPPT solar charger cut off with the error 40.

as i read, this error cant be resolved or resetted, the MPPT charger is dead and has to be replaced.

so far OK.
now my thwo questions.
can i replace the interior solar charger inside the easysolar (5kVA)? most likely not.

and if not, can i use a normal external MPPT charger (same size) instead?
yes this will work as a standalone device, but can i disconnect the interior solarcharger from the easy and connect this external solarcharger to the
color control GX?
this would be greart to get the system up again and have it on the VRM portal again.

thanks for help.

You can easily replace it.
If you open your easysolar, you’ll see that the mppt is a standard mppt smartsolar.
Just a few bolts and screws and you’ll be good to go.

No offense, but I am surprised that you didn’t see that on page 25 of your easysolar manual… Or page 31…

hi thank you for your answer. if my easy would look like yours on the picture inside, i wouldnt have asked :-). but my easy has no complete solarcharger inside. it looks completly differnet.
there are only circuit boards inside.

under the upper cover.

under the lower cover.

i just assume, that the smaller board behind the back of the big board might be the solarcharger board.
i hope that the attached pictures are visible, then you might see my problem.

It is behind the switchgear, where you put your solar cable connections.
You would have to take that out.

Follow the wires marked in yellow. Behind the cover.

Summary

Sorry then, when you said 5kVA, I believed it’s about the EasySolar 2…

Is the previous one 5kVA?
On Victron site there is only a 1.6kVA version…

thank you, i will try it, as soon as im there!
i will get back to you when ive succeded

just checked it, its from 2022 so it will be the older version. and yes the new model is just 1.6 kVA. but i will dig into it…

That’s the old model with a build-in CCGX.

Thanks for clarifying it for me. :+1:

thank you all for the help. i made it and the solarcharger is really behind the lower switchboard.
the work was straight foreward and selfexplanatory as soo as i had it into pieces
so i have just a little folowup question. does it make any sense trying to repair the blown smartsolar? tke it into pieces, send it to a workshop, send it to victron nederlands?
or is it waste of money and time? its still here and i dont want to throw it away
