Is there a way to rename the digital inputs for the Cerbo-gx? I wanted to pull in an alarm from a different device, but it is not one of the default selections. Can I rename one of them to be what I am looking at?
On the Cerbo go to Menu, select the digital input from the device list, select “Device” from the sub-menu, then on the “Device” menu you should have access to “Name” which you select and put in your own name.
Hello. please see the screen shot.
I renamed the digital input as “TANESCO OFF STATUS” now in the web platform when alarm comes it shows correctly. But on the mobile phone notification it just shows Device Digital input instead of the name. Same thing in email.
Can you support how all the notifications to reflect the name set. This way i cant even know what the alarm is for.
I believe that improvements are planned in this area, there have been many comments on wanting to see the device name in notifications / emails.
What does planned in this area mean?
I have a client who has 100+ Victron Inverters. We are going to set up the entire remote monitoring for them. It will all be under the Victron platform, and they can’t have unnamed alarms popping up over 100 sites.
This is serious. Even if you have a beta update I can give you access to enable it on our system so we can demonstrate it to the client.
I am not a Victron employee, just another contributor to the forum. I see comments and relay them here. I can not answer your question. As you are a large installer you should make sure this feedback gets to your regional manager.
See the community guidelines.
This Community is predominantly volunteers, and the vast majority of the answers are provided by enthusiasts. It is not an Official Ask Victron site, for that please use the normal line of support.
Hi @NahidValli,
Here is another similar issue that already has an open feature request ticket with the VRM team - VRM Alarm notifications missing name and ID
I’ve added your feedback and examples screenshots to that and requested the engineers have another look.
There is no beta version to share, and while I’m not exactly sure what the limitation is to adding this yet, it wasn’t straight forward.
I’ll find out more details about exactly what the hold up is, and from there can get a better idea about what can be done to improve it and when.
Hello @guystewart
Thanks. In the process of showing the demo to the client (Large Consumer) i had no explanation as to why the name and id isn’t showing.
They simply chose a random email and asked me explain to us what this alarm is for???
As an end user this should be worked on as mandatory as you cant be sending notifications without informing what you are notifying about. Kills the whole purpose for it.
Look at doing your alarm notifications via NodeRed rather than VRM. Far more flexible.
I’m using NodeRed to do SMS alarms via an API for a group of recipients where email isn’t appropriate.
Hello. You’ve gotta tell me more about this. Is there any where it explains how to connect Victron notifications to it?
Have a read of the documentation regarding NodeRed on VenusOS
I’ve heard back from the R&D team, they are aware of this limitation, and have a plan on how it can be improved. It will need to wait until some other higher priorities are resolved first.
Hey Guy. My client here has 100+ victron quattro installed in all over his branches. He wants to propose to his management the implementation of RMS. Through the Victron platform. We have set the same up for him and currently, it’s in the demo phase. If passed we implement the same in all sites. We are stuck as the digital input name isn’t appearing on notifications. So this is a high priority for us. Unless we lose the monitoring project entirely and it’s pushed to next year. Please see if this can be done. Even as small beta for our demo platform. We can give access
Understandable, I have done what I can from my side reporting the request and creating the ticket.
Given now it is just a matter of assigning R&D resources and their priorities, I would recommend getting in touch with your Victron sales manager and asking them to please lobby on your behalf to increase this feature requests priority specifically.
Once there is a clear incentive that this is directly affecting the business side of things then it can move ahead of other “nice to have” features. But the person who is needed to make that call is the distribution and sales network.
I should say that this isn’t some official policy or anything, just my experience from watching and learning how to get things done at Victron when my priorities aren’t perfectly matched with the R&D efforts. Once the direct business case is made, it all seems to happen much faster.
Hey @guystewart
I tried getting hold of the main supplier but he too has hit a stone wall. Any other suggestions to get the naming on the digital inputs.
Also on another note. Can we integrate SMS notifications and if yes will they also not be able to get the digital input name?
Hey @WhiteCitySolar can i get the node red code for sms. So i can optimize it to my environment and implement.
