PV feed-in although battery WAS 100% and decreases load until 80%

Hi,

strange behavior in my 3 phase Victron system with MPPT 450/200 und 3 Mulitpous 2 with 5kw. During solar power charges the battery pack (“without battery life”) to 100% the system switches to feed-in with up to 10kW sucking also from batteries and not only from solar power. This behavior happens to both of my installations, one with DVCC ON, the other OFF.

ESS configured as:

Any idea?

Thanks in advance for your support

This is typically happening when you use different bulk/float voltages along with lifepo batteries.

Bulk/float is meant for lead acid (and other) battery types that need to be charged ABOVE maximum voltage and then lowered; Lifepos should be charged AT their maximum voltage, therefore don’t need bulk neither float phases

Other types “drop” in voltage, when switching to float, so nothing happens, lifepos don’t. So, you are basically “forcing” a discharge down to float voltage then.

For the DVCC System, the BMS may lower it’s Chargevoltage limit according to configured settings, and the lowered CVL will make the multis detect an overvoltage situation and therefore feedin from battery as well, once the lowered float voltage is applied.

For the non-dvcc system the same would be caused by bulk/float beeing configured through VEConfigure.

I saw the discharge after full on LFPs but only for a few seconds to reach 98-97% SoC. Lowering cell voltage from 3.45V to 3.40V.

This battery gets discharged below 90%… That seem to be a different root cause.

Ah, I didn’t look at the screenshots, didn’t notice this lasts long.

Yes, float voltage based issues (ofc, depends on the actual float voltage applied) should usually only last some 10s of seconds.

I learned that remote VEConfigure is integrated into VRM. So I downloaded the Configuration, which is a *.rsvc file. None of the Victron tools, which I can access are able to open this file. VEConfigure gives me the info, that “Einstellungen deaktiviert”, um auf Einstellungen zuzugreifen, stellen Sie eine lokale Verbindung über MK3-USB her. And: “3-Phasen System: Jedes Gerät muss entsprechend dem Systemtyp…” Any glue how to open / edit / restore the config file?

Are you sure you received a *.rsvc file? When I run remote ve.configure, I get a *.rvms file instead – which opens in VE.Bus System Configurator.

This time, it was really a *.rvms file. Funny  Neverthess, I am missing VE.Bus System Configurator for MacOS? this is only available as .exe, correct?

Hi, meanwhile I installed Parallels Desktop with Windows 11 and downloaded the VE.Config tool. Saw that float was at 48V and absorption at 50V. Changed that to same values due to Li Ion Batteries chemistry. Will try again.

I’m afraid that VE.Configure isn’t available as a Mac app. I’m quite disappointed about that, but I understand it’s a very old tool and that all the new Victron Energy devices will be configured through VictronConnect instead.

That will be most likely the cause. 48V on a 48V battery is … a bit bellow empty :stuck_out_tongue:
