Problems with VE Configure and USB-VEdirect

System is Cerbo, Multiplus2, Pylontech batteries
Problem is to connect Windows 11 laptop so as to run VE Configure and change some settings
Note, this same laptop and same USB-VEDirect cable have been used previously

Description
Start Windows, Open VE Configure, connect USB end of cable to USB port, connect VEDirect end of cable to spare VE Direct port on Cerbo,
In the connect ports option on VE Configure, a new option is now available other than autodetect, In this case, its port 5, so I select Port 5 and the app goes into searching mode with dots progressing left to right. But communication then fails

I have tried:

  • using autodetect for port selection
  • using different laptop (Laos windows 11)
  • replaced USB–VE Direct with Mk3 adapter and connected directly to the RJ45 from the inverter
  • Tried VE Flash and VE BUS configurator apps, just in case these can communicate with the system

None of the above allows communication with the system

Any suggestions anyone please?

Phil

Don’t know about VE.Direct, but

If you use USB MK3 to connect to the inverter via VE.Bus, you must disconnect the Cerbo.

Hi Rick
Thanks for responding
When I connected the Mk3 I removed the data cable (from MP2 to Cerbo) at the Cerbo end, then used this cable to plug into the Mk3, so in effect, the Cerbo was not connected.
With the USB-VE Direct cable, the Cerbo has to be connected because the cable plugs into a VE Direct connector, these being on the Cerbo.
The procedure I used is same as I have always done, so I find this whole thing very odd

BTW, I am now accessing by using the remote functionality through VRM having downloaded VEConfigure to operate in remote mode.
While this solves my immediate configure needs, it does not solve the core problem,

If your victron system and laptop are on LAN you should be able to do whatever you need - configuration/vrm / victron connect ect ect

Ps enable two way communication.
8. Remote VEConfigure(see,Device%20list%20page%20on%20VRM

Thank you for this information, but do I not need also to be connected to internet?
In some locations I work there is internet connection available, hence I wanted to use the USB ports direct

Additionally, should I undertake an inverter firmware update, and should something go wrong, then I would need to gain access to the system via direct cable, not VE Configure remote

So problem remains?

Any ideas anyone, at least, something to try?
