I bought 12 years ago an MP compact 24/2000 and then could use VEconfig2 with no problem.
After testing, I didn’t use it because it was used as an emergency inverter in case grid fails.
Then I used AGM battery but like to swich to LFP.
So (on a brand new W10 machine) I tried to use VEconfig2, combined with MK2-USB but it failed to find a port to communicate.
I bought a MK3-USB (I know, this is not supportes on this inverter) and of course it did not work.
I bought then a Cerbo XC, and communication to the MP worked.
But to change the config it was not possible because when I download the config file from the VRM Portal and tried to open it, I got:
On VEconfig3 an error: Firmware revision 1918202 which is in the Multi is not supported by the CCGX remote conigure mechanism
And, upgrading the firmware of the MP compact is not possible “Not updatable (1342)”.
So, I’m sure the UTP cable is properly working because the Cerbo CX worked and the MP hardware seems to be also OK because I could can have contact with the MP via VRM.
So, as last resort, I bought a new MK2-USB (the old MK2). That should work.
But when starting VEC2 and do a port scan, no communication is possible (using the same UTP cable).
I have updated the firmware myself wayback then and that was 1918292.vff and worked okay.
I used VEC2 V90.04.147 (downloaded via the waybackmachine)
Thanks for trying to help me, much appreciated!
What I did:
did a system restore on my computer so that I have a clean WIN10 installation.
downloaded from the victron site the latest “VE Configuration tools for VE.Bus Products”
installed them
started VEC3 and stopped at the home screen
switched the MPC 2000/24 on (inverter mode)
connected the (brand new) MK3-USB to the UTP cable which was already connected to the VE-bus*
inserted the USB cable to the laptop
checked in “device manager” if the MK3-USB did appear, and it did (driver: FTDI 2.12.16.0)
selected from menu in VEC3 Port selection > COM port
it then shows auto detect, and COM3 (COM3 dissapears if I disconnect the MK3-USB)
tried both choices COM3 / auto, with no result
this cable is the same cable (not disconnected) that worka in combination with a brand new Cerbo GX, that means, the MPC 2000/24 was detected and I could see some basic information about this device via BT and worked also in VRM portal.
My primary goal is to reconfigure the MPC so that I can hook up new batteries (LFP that replaces AGM)
PS: the MPC functions still properly, as I configured it some 12 years ago. That means, as an inverter/charger only to use when the grid will be down to supply power for freezer and fridge.
To all others that are looking for a possible solution for this problem.
In the end it appears that the UTP cable was faulty.
I used three other UTP cables and only with one I succeed to connect via VEC3 to my Multiplus via MK2-USB. The MK3-USB worked as well.
I like to mention, that the three UTP cables are working UTP cables when used to connect Ethernet devices. So, the fact that a UTP cable does work with Ethernet, does not imply that it wil work with the VEbus.
Thanks for the support.
