Issue with Blue Smart IP 67 12/25 charger and Redodo 12V/100Ah

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Redodo 12V 100Ah battery. I’m using it with a Victron MPPT 75/15 solar charge controller, a SmartShunt and a Victron Blue Smart IP67 12/25 battery charger (which I already had).

The solar setup itself isn’t causing any problems, and the battery is correctly detected and charged by the MPPT. The problem is with the charger: no charging current flows at all (0 A). Although the charger output is at 14.2 V (both when measured manually and as shown in the VictronConnect app), the battery simply doesn’t charge. Since it is currently at around 60% capacity, it should definitely be charging (it’s night-time, with no sunlight). The app simply shows: Absorption 14.2 V – 0 A.

I’ve already tried every possible setting in the app — both the standard profile for Li-ion and a custom profile with an absorption voltage of 14.2 V and a float voltage of 13.4 V. We’ve tried everything, but unfortunately haven’t found a solution.

The strange thing is that when I connect a borrowed, original Redodo mains charger (a basic device without app connectivity), everything works perfectly. The shunt immediately shows that the battery is charging at the expected 25 A. So the battery itself appears to be fine.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, or has anyone had the same problem with this combination? Is my charger even compatible? Thanks!

What is the BSC setting?

Hello, this is what it currently looks like, but I’ve tried various other settings without success

There should be a fuse in the line—check it.
Otherwise, contact your dealer.

The fuse is fine. When I connect the Redodo charger to the same terminals, it works. The Victron is the only one I already had, so there’s no warranty and no chance of getting help from the retailer. I just want to make sure I haven’t got a setting wrong; if I buy a new one, I’d prefer not to have the same problem. The charger otherwise worked well with AGM batteries…

The cable connected to the charger should also have a fuse in it. Have you checked that as well?

I’m not sure whether the 25A version has one, though.

It didn’t have a fuse; I installed one, and it’s OK.

Then the device appears to have an internal fault.

Please measure the charger’s output voltage.
At least my IP22 charger has an option to reset it to the default settings.

And I’ve already had chargers replaced as a goodwill gesture, even outside the warranty period

The no-load voltage is 14.2, and under load it is 13.37; the battery is at 89%

What is strange is that the charger switches from absorption to float, but no current is flowing

Somehow, the whole thing seems very dubious. It sounds like there’s contact resistance between the source and the load. The question is where exactly it is.

Do you have a lead-acid battery you can use for testing?

On the right-hand side, you can enter the serial number to find out which dealer the charger was purchased from.

Personally for my redodo 12V 100Ah in series for 48V I keep things very conservative, absorb at 13.8V and float at 13.6V.

Absolutely no reason to try and get to 14.2V imo very little capacity at the top end. Chances are bms is disabling charging due to one of the cells hitting a high voltage limit.

Discharge the battery some then try those settings. The soc guessometer in the app can be ignored. Mine dont have any bt at all just black boxes.

Thanks for the tip, I still have the “old” AGM. I’ll test it this evening.
According to the S/N, my Victron is pretty old…

Thanks, I’ve been running the battery under a 3 A load since yesterday. I’ll see what has changed today. I’ll also try your settings; that could be one approach.

Just connect a lamp to the power supply and see whether any power comes out at all. The fact that the output voltage is higher than the set 13.8 V when there’s no load makes me suspicious, and that shouldn’t happen with a charger like this.

If the battery isn’t fully charged, the voltage is pulled down.

Have you got any photos?

If the charger is set to 13.8 V but outputs 14.2 V with no load, then something is faulty.

So, the matter is settled: the device is faulty! I dismantled it and measured 13.5 volts; when I connected a 12V lamp, the voltage dropped to 0.
I reported it to the Victron dealer—let’s see; the warranty has probably expired.

Thanks everyone for your help.
