Orion XS Earth Connection

I recently installed an Orion XS DC-DC charger on my sailboat to charge my Starter Battery which is not connected to my ARCO Zeus 275a alternator (previous owner configured). I have 4 x 230AH Victron AGM that are connected to a Lynx Power-In; which is connected to the Lynx 1000 Shunt; which connects to the Lynx Distributor.

The positive cable from the starter battery to the Orion XS’s “positive in” terminal.

Orion XS’s “positive out” terminal to the positive bus bar on the Lynx distributor

The Orion XS’s “ground” terminal to the negative bus bar on the Lynx distributor.

Finally I have the ground wire to the negative terminal of the starter batter grounded to the engine block

60a fuses placed before the positive Starter and on Lynx Distributor.

Is this correct?? Or should I ground the XS to the engine too?

The starter battery and the house battery bank need to have a common negative. You need a cable from the Lynx Distributor negative to the starter battery negative or a cable from the Lynx Distributor negative to the engine ground.

If you are charging your starter battery from the house battery bank then you have connected the positive cables the wrong way, the house bank goes to the Orion in and the starter to the Orion out.

if you are connecting the Orion XS to a GX device by VE Direct cable then you need to make sure it is set as a load on the house battery not a charger supplying charge to the house battery

Awesome. Thanks for the advice!
