Orion XS doesn’t seem to be charging lithium

My application is a boat - I would like to have the Orion XS use power from the running alternator to charge the lithium battery bank.
I’m using the multiplus and it’s works fine.
I’ve been turning the charging on and off with the app (until I’m confident the charging is working ) - then I’ll experiment with the engine detection feature.
It seems like the Orion is neither charging the lithium while underway, nor is it keeping the lithium from discharging through the multiplied to my inverter loads.

Attached is a picture on the Orion xs. It doesn’t look right to me and also it shows my alternator providing 14 v and sending 16 v to the lithium.

Can anyone enlighten me ?
Thanks
Tom

Can you show us your battery settings?
And are you saying the Engine shutdown detection is switched off?

16v seems high and in your photo it’s showing 11.9v from your alternator.

That’s what baffles me - why the Orion is putting out 16v.
Here are the Orion settings
Also yesterday while underway for 7 hours engines and alternator running) the lithium bank went for 48% to 18%.
I was hoping the Orion would keep the lithium charged while we are running.

Hi @Tjcruiser

You have enabled VE.Smart networking on the OrionXS. What are the other devices on the VE.Smart network? And are they connected to the battery to which the output of the Orion XS is connected?

Kind regards,
Thiemo van Engelen

Looks like the grounds of the batteries aren’t connected

The only other smart networking device is the victron smart shunt.

Thank you Luda.
I did indeed have the ground from the multiplus and the Orion XS disconnected - I was troubleshooting an ac gfci issue and forgot to reconnect the grounds.
They are connected now

Thank you Ludo
Looks like you are right, I did not have the ground connected to the lithium batteries (receiving the alternator charge).

Can you tell me if I need the shunt between the two batteries ? As shown in one of the pictures ?

Thanks,
Tom

Its optional, but ofc not necessary.

seems like this have being going on for months and still not fixed it! also my alternator seems to have been fried!
