Orion Tr Smart 24/24 for double battery system

Hello,
I habe a Solar system 24 V DC with a victron MPPT, a 100 Ah battery and a Phoenix inverter to AC Voltage

Now i want to add a second battery. I could go parallel but also i was thinking to use a Orion TR smart DC-DC charger

My circuit: a MPPT solar charger, charging the primary battery , which then charge trough a Orion TR smart DC-DC another battery, to which then i connect to the ACinverter.

So the primary battery is charged by the sun which then trough the DC-DC Orion charge the second battery to where i pull the energy for AC

The DC-DC charger will be set to drain the primary battery till a safe value and try to keep the second battery as charged as possible, and then when the primary battery is below a threshold should the second battery be drained.

Will this work, does someone already use a system like this?

Thank you!!!

  1. Why waste energy on the extra conversion through the DC to DC, there will be less energy for use.
  2. Depending on the size of the inverter, the DC to DC may not be able to keep up with ac use so the second battery will discharge.

It is a poor idea, just connect them in parallel. Makes the most of recharging, having 2 batteries in parallel means less voltage drop when the inverter is running so the inverter and batteries are more efficient.
