Orion Smart TR 12/24 DC-DC Charger with VE.Bus BMS V2 current output issue

Hello Community,

I have 3 Orion TR Smart 12/24 15A DC-DC Chargers wired together to try and charge 3 x 200Ah (600Ah total) of Victron Smart Lithium batteries controlled by VE.Bus BMS V2 from a 12VDC battery/engine start system (100A 12VDC alternator, with +/-5m of 35mm2 cable running from battery to separate positive and negative busbar, which feeds the input side of each DC-DC charger with 6mm2 cable with fuse and cable run less than 0.5m)

As can be seen from attached images, screenshots from Victron Connect and our Cerbo GX screen, the DC-DC has Input and Output voltage, and the settings are shown and as far as I can see match what they should be, but while I am getting voltage, I am getting no current and therefore no charging into the battery bank. The charging shown is from the MPPT output, not the DC-DC chargers.

I would hugely appreciate if anyone can see anything I have missed or has any suggestions to see what I could check to determine what may be the issue.

Your Orion shows 28.4V on its output while the Shunt shows 26.8V. I bet theres a disconnect between the two. Check fuses and connections

Hi chrigu, well spotted, I’d looked at it so much I clearly couldn’t see it he wood from the trees, as they say!

I went through all the connections and found the one single common point that was the weak link. There was a bad ring connector that had some sort of coating formed on it or from when I fitted it and that was stopping a good negative for the system. So resolved now.

Thank you
