Orion as charger, particularly as this diagram below is one way solution: starter=>auxiliary (If I am understanding correct). In case a starter battery is down a power from secondary need to be transferred. I assume this can’t be done thru the Orion itself and some kind of transfer power switch need to be used.
I will appreciate any shared experience.
Your assumption is correct.
If the starter and aux battery are the same chemistry you can use a cyrix combiner instead. They react to voltage on both sides, so either side can charge the other.
If not, for example the aux is lifepo, then you need an Orion or a smartBMS. But thats only one way charging, usually from starter to aux battery.
You can use a manual battery switch to combine them in emergencies (if both batteries are the same voltage), just dont forget to switch it off again
@chrigu thank you very much for the reply. I even wasn’t aware about the cyrix combiner. Yes, the battery chemistry is the same.
This will be a perfect solution for my car project.
