Off Grid Victron Multiplus II 48V 5000-7000 GX, SMA Sunny Boy 5kW, Pylon US300C

Hey Guys,

Just wanting some final advice before I head out to site to commission this setup.

We have a off grid small house with 3x Pylon US3000C batteries which I understand need a comms connection to the Multiplus via a Victron V.E.Can to CAN BUS BMS Cable Type A.

I also have a 5kW SMA Single phase Sunny Boy that I would like to get talking to the Multiplus. Is this done with a normal CAT6 Lead going into the Multiplus or do I just setup as a PV inverter and use the current sensor?

Hi Josh,
You need a Cerbo or GX device for the batteries to talk to the Multi. Pylontech is straight CAN, The Multiplus is VE-bus, the 2 don’t talk to each other.

Hey Mike, no worries. I’m using a Multiplus II GX. I’m pretty sure this has a built in GX device unless I’m wrong?

You can not connect the sma to the multi directly, use a pv meter or i believe it will work on network connection like fronius (sorry no sma experience)

Pretty sure the Sunny boy only uses ModbusTCP. You will need to set that up before you go to the site. You may also need an array to start the Sunny Boy. You will only get data, there is no control like a Fronius. The meter will be fine for getting production data. Freq shifting should work to disable the inverter.
