Mutiplus II communication with peripherial devices

I have Multiplus-II GX, Smart Solar MPPT 150/45, smart shunt, smart sense and battery with incompatible BMS. Autonomous system without grid connection. Both 24V and 230V loads.

Can I just connect all Victron devices into network via bluetooth to smart shunt as battery current sensor and smart sense as voltage/temperature sensors ?
Does connecting Multiplus and MPPT with VEdirect cable needed and gives any additional options?

No you have to connect everything wired with ve direct, without they cant communicate and your gx is “useless”

This way the gx can control everything with data from all devices

you can use a powered usb hub to connect multiple ve direct devices

You can use a ve bus to BT dongle and it also can be be added to the smart network.. Each of the devices transmits something different. So check if you really need to.

In all honesty though unless you have terrible voltage drop (which should be fixed by installing better) and maybe the need to prevent charging under 5°C there is no need.

No. The GX is the way as @DuivertNL answered.

As i’m not using Multiplus as a charger, can I just connect smart sense and shunt to MPPT, to avoid charging with minus degrees (and prevent BMS trip); and then wire MPPT to Multiplus to transfer all data to VRM?

You cant connect both as i said, you can disable multi charger and let only mppt charge, but all comms should go thru gx

So only option I have, buy two VEdirect to USB wires, powered USB hub? And smart sence still can not be connected, as it has no VEdirect?
Or I can use ve bus to BT dongle, as LX wrote? But why do I need extra dongle if Multiplus already has bluetooth? What is functionality of this bluetooth?

Multis do not have bluetooth, they are vebus only.
Chargers are vedirect/CAN (with secondary BT).
Smartnetworking (Blueteeth) has limitations, have a read of the manual.

The GX enables better coordination and far more configuration options, including remote access, stats etc.

The two shouldn’t be mixed.

Smart sense is not designed for the gx system, only for standalone, you dont need it, smartshunt can do voltage, multiplus can do voltage and battery temp

My Multiplus II GX definetly has bluetooth.
What I find from on Victron GX product range [Victron Energy]
Late 2021 / early 2022, the hardware of the MultiPlus-II GX and EasySolar-II GX product range has been updated. The update adds Bluetooth and changes the CAN-communications port from a limited 500kbps BMS-Can only type to a full featured VE.Can port (non-isolated). Status per model, updated 2024-05-20:

  1. MultiPlus-II GX 24 3kVA; per HQ2231. …

I’m looking for manual where this communication logics is explained, but multiplux GX is not covered there.

The GX is a combination of a multi and a built in GX (small version).
The latter has some bluetooth, the multi has none.
GX bluetooth, as per the manuals, is used for setup it is not used for system comms.
GX’s are intended for wired only configurations.
They support additional dongles for other purposes and connecting sensors like Ruuvi’s etc.

Information is spread across various guides:
The GX/cerbo manual
VE smart networking

The built in GX is very limited in capabilities/connectivity compared to a standalone Cerbo.

And what is functionality of Multiplus-II GX USB port? Can I use it as VE direct connection point with appropriate cable?

I received response from distributor, that it should work.
So connect MPPT to Multiplus VE direct port and shunt to Multiplus USB. What do you think?

Yes thats exactly how it works, if you need more usb ports use a good quality powered hub

I’m not sure if I need to create new topic, but I have small question. According to the manual/technical datasheet zero load power of Multiplus II GX 24/3000 shall be 13W, but according data from VRM portal it’s aroun 40W with no AC loads connected.

Yes it varies on vrm, its an estimation/snapshot

my 3 phase system does that too

Is it possible to configure Multiplus II GX via its’ usb port?

No thats not possible as far as i know, why would you want to do that?

Config can be done with victron connect and/or ve config software

I don’t see any options for configuring Multiplus in Victron Connect.
VE Config - manuals say that I need special cable to use it?

I agree its a bit confusing, you can connect to it with wifi, ssid and key are on the label on the multiplus

Once connected you can go into the local remote console off the multiplus

There you can enable vrm 2 way communication, once you setup a vrm account you can add your gx

From vrm configuration can be done with ve config software

Not 100% sure but newer models have bluetooth to connect with the victron comnect app, (basic) config can be done from there

You can find manuals online and you can follow free victron professional courses with more info

Inverter, plus gx, plus mppt, plus shunt etc…

The inverter load is 12w that is its self consumption. The rest is all the other components in the system.

Although, that could also be an ‘assumed’ amount if you are using the victron itself to get that figure on the vrm. It is always a pessimistic wattage.
