When I use the VRM app or VRM via VictronConnect to look at my installation on my old iPhone 7 Plus none of the charts show and they simply display ‘No data to display’. If I access the system via my laptop or an Android phone it all works perfectly. All was working perfectly on the iPhone until just recently. My phone did an Apple security update a few days back up to version 15.8.7 but I cant confirm whether the loss of charts in VRM occurred immediately after this or not but it might be linked.
I’ve tried all the usual things like rebooting the CerboGX, uninstalling the VRM app, turning the phone off and re-installing it and also clearing caches etc but nothing has fixed the issue. Sometimes I do get to see a chart made up of one bar that fills the whole chart frame but most of the time it simply shows ‘no data to display’.
Any ideas what I can do as I use the phone daily to check on things and the lack of charts now is very frustrating?
The apps use the safari framework for access. If safari does not work then your phone is no longer compatible with VRM.
Trying other browsers on IOS doesn’t usually help as they use the same frameworks.
Thanks for posting this (Vonasi and nickdb) as I was also tearing my hair out for past week. I can confirm VRM App “Quick Ranges” Options no longer displays data since the IOS 15.8.7 security update on my IPhone 7. VRM Portal does not open at all on IPhone 7 on Safari Browser. VRM Portal DOES open on IPhone 7 Google Chrome but has same “Quick Range” issue.
However the “Custom Date & Time” still works on Iphone7 VRM App. (IOS 15.8.7) as a “workaround” but is frustrating as my IPhone 7 has been my dedicated “Monitor” in place of expensive alternatives. Forced hardware upgrades are impossible for us pensioners to cater for unfortunately but that is how the world works now. Hopefully my Victron hardware doesn’t “just stop working” until I am 6 feet under…
Thanks for your reply Drugles. I hadn’t tried changing the selected dates and times to display and had simply been using ‘Yesterday’ or ‘Today’ or ‘Last 7 Days’ etc. I just tried it on custom dates and suddenly my charts work. It is a bit of an ugly workaround and would seem to indicate that something fairly simple has been broken by an update. I noticed that the VRM app had yet another update yesterday when I looked in the App Shop. Hopefully someone can fix this soon as I also don’t have the time or money to go phone shopping right now!
Suddenly (don’t believe I changed or updated anything) as of this morning existing enabled SOC Widget under Advanced (including history) shows no data even when using Custom Date & Time. SOC (live) does still show under Dashboard but I believe that is because that data is “live directly from Battery BMSes” (rather than the stored data retrieved from VRM databases) and I have BMS set (and CAN cable connected to inverter) as Battery Monitor. I have not checked all the other currently unused widgets yet. Pity because that is one of the 5 important ones for me. I did try remove and re-add the widgets but result is the same. My other device (PC) still work perfectly so problem not due to VRM stored database refreshing issues.
I had exactly the same with the advanced SOC chart disappearing recently. I was travelling in Europe for three months and lost that chart. I thought it was because I changed a battery setting remotely and needed to re-sync the battery by charging to 100% but that didn’t fix it. What fixed it was uninstalling the VRM app and then re-installing it. Then a few days later I lost all the charts and nothing would bring them back - except for your suggestion today of using custom dates. I did wonder in the back of my mind whether it was something to do with the clocks changing to British Summer Time.
Thanks for feedback. All below only using Custom Date & Time criteria: I enabled ALL widgets and found that the Battery SOC from Battery Monitor (512) Category does not display data (on Iphone7Plus) on Advanced Tab but the Battery SOC from the Gateway Category DOES display data so I will use that one going forward. When using PC Chrome VRM, the two graphs (SOC) appear to be identical except the percentage labels are slightly different but not a problem. Thanks for input.
The dev team obviously have all the necessary test environments for testing but herewith some additional info which I was aware of but did not include in my previous feedback. Ignore if not helpful.
On iphone7, when switching (with a “swipe down refresh” each time, which is as far as I can tell is the point it “breaks”) from Valid Custom Date and Time to a Quick Range option (eg. Today) then switching back to Custom Date and Time, the From/To fields default to the current Day (correct in this specific instance) and minute. From/To fields need to be “corrected” each time above steps done.
Whilst that may imply there was simply no data for that specific minute (unlikely but I guess possible) repeating the steps for numerous “minutes” produce no data either.
I have not tested every Quick Range option but every one I did test always defaults to Current (as at “Swipe Down Refresh”) DATE and TIME “Minute Range” regardless of the Quick Range “Period” selected.
Earlier today whilst using the VRM app on Iphone7P a message popped up “Your network provider may charged for sms messages used to activate ICloud” which I normally only saw after IOS updates completed and rebooted phone. IOS Version number has not changed. A few seconds later the VRM App automatically did a “long” (similar to time frame to restart the app) data refresh. I suspect that a background update was was performed which I assume was an IOS update rather than VRM update (but have no clue). There is currently no “new” VRM update available on App Store.
Only now did I then try using the Advanced Quick Ranges options and they (my preferred current widgets) all appear to be working again (except Battery SOC% (512) which is not critical since I can use the Gateway - System one. ) All the Quick Range options work. I have not checked every widget.
VRM Portal loads and functions correctly on Google Chrome (iphone7p) but still does not load on Safari but has never loaded in the past to the best of my memory.
Thank you all for the fix, much appreciated!
Edit: Removed incorrect statement “except “Tomorrow ” and “Day after Tomorrow””” as none of my current widgets would have valid data for those two ranges anyway” Added a valid widget and both work.
I can also confirm that everything seems to be back to normal and working on my old iPhone7 now. Thanks to everyone at Victron for getting this fixed so quickly.
