That’s good to know. I think the problem with the Huawei was that the back was broken, so the battery was no longer contained and compressed, and swelled alarmingly! The screen and battery were also very warm to touch.
The Spectralink Versity I am now using has been plugged in 24/7 for several days with the screen on permanently and completely cool to touch front and back. Rock solid performance so far.
For reference, the Zebra handset I tried dropped the app every 40 minutes or so and had to be reloaded, so not suitable for the task.
All three devices run Android 10, so it seems while all Android is equal, some are more equal than others - to completely misquote George Orwell!!
It is on Android 13 Go Edition.
I have set the Android screen timeout to “never”. Will report if that is an improvement.
Sometimes I have to reboot 2 or 3 times before the GX Display kicks in.
I can confirm I got this to work on a Lenovo Tab M8 model TB-8504F running Android 8.1.0. However it would not work when my Cerbo and the tablet were connected to my house network. I got the dreaded Error Loading Web page. I had to Hotspot my phone and connect the Cerbo and the tablet to the hotspot and use the phones 5G network connection. Then bingo it worked.
I figure there must be some firewall/router problem when the devices are both connected to my home network. I am no network expert but would appreciate it someone could tell me how the tablet downloads the gui from the Cerbo. Do I need a port configured/opened. Is there some protocol that I need to allow. Any ideas.
Oh and it did not work on my other Lenovo tablet. I’ll post the specs later, the install got stuck on the Set up work device screen and would not go any further. No error message nothing and I left it overnight.
The tablet it did not work on was the Lenovo Tab M8 TB-8304F1 running Android 7.0. It gets to the Set up work device and refuses to go any further.
This is the screen shot on the TB-8304F1 that it will not go past even after leaving overnight.
I have amazon hd fire running this excellent software, connected to usb power supply for months with no issues.
If battery is swelling/ damaged then battery should be disposed of and use of is simply asking for trouble.
The GX firmware is v3.60~24. I have had success using my phone as a hotspot using GX version v3.60~11 but not on my home network. I have not tried hotspot with v3.60~24. I will try later and see if it still works.
I can confirm via Wifi hotspot on my phone there is no problem connecting and downloading the gui on my Lenovo Tab MB TB-8504F, it works brilliantly.
One thing that I’ve noticed is that after a week or so of the display working (while I manually turn the screen off at night and then back on the next day) it ends up not reloading the dashboard. It’s just a blank screen. I’ve tried the “Reload UI” button and it didn’t change anything. The only way I found to fix was to reboot the tablet. It only seems to happen after a week or so of running the display.
That does bring up a suggestion though. I know there’s a “display always on” checkbox, but could there also be a schedule related to that checkbox? For example alway leave the display on between 10a-10p but then let the display turn off at night? Just a thought.
Hi, I just installed the new system in my RV. For the life of me I can not get my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite to work with Cerbo GX. Always get the same result :“Error loading web page” . I think I did it probably 6 times already, same result.
What to do?
Question: If I have configured the android and everything works. If I’m out camping and the android and verbose gx is in my rv will everything still work without a WiFi present?
I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2017) with Android version 9.
Symptom: After scanning the QR code the “Setting up work device…” screen is active and appears to work fine. The acknowledgement screen (“I have read and agree…”) loads but after acknowledging the end result is the generic Android home page.
From there I scrolled the apps loaded on the tablet and found the gxDisplay app. I was tempted to start the app but instead did some investigating. What I found is the gxDisplay app is labeled as an “Unknown App” by the tablet. To fix this I went to SETTINGS > SECURITY > INSTALL UNKNOWN APPS > gxDisplay and then turned on ALLOW FROM THIS SOURCE.
I then restarted the tablet (not sure that’s required) and then manually started the gxDisplay app. From there I was able to follow the rest of the Victron instructions.
First of all, many thanks to the developers of the app!!.
It solves many problems when a display is required far away.
I hope that Victron will also release a suitable 7/24h display.
Now my problem:
Motorola Moto e4, Android 7.1.1
Installation works, even if the smartphone is a little slow
However, after the first restart, the screen orientation changes from horizontal mode to portrait mode and can not be changed. Automatic rotation is active
Observed the same, (web error every 1-2 minutes randomly connected to one of my GX) since I connectet to wifi using the Android Wifi Function it works perfect.
Any chance for a different color palette? The new UI is beautiful but would really benefit from a “night mode” where everything is in red tones. I’d love to mount this on the wall in a room in my RV and would definitely need to see it at night since the batteries discharge then but don’t want it to keep me awake. The new Standby mode on iPhones is great for this - I can have the phone right next to my bed and the red palette doesn’t interfere with getting to sleep.
