Heya - context: small sailing boat, 300w of solar, 2x100AH house batteries and 1 x 100ah starter batterie. (Sealed lead acid). Victron smart solar MPPT. Old school amp usage and amp hour monitor which came with the boat.
I recently replaced all my batteries, I always monitor my amp hour usage as we only have 100AH useable energy. The old batteries would generally re gain most of the lost amp hours by the end of the day (normally we would be about -60ah after a night sail on crossing, and after a day of sun we would regain most of that).
My problem is that the new batteries aren’t regaining all their lost amp hours. The MPPT is going into float mode while I’m still over -30ah. It feels like the batteries are so new that they are holding charge too easily. I’ve monitored the MPPT on the app and the batteries are holding the designated float charge well so it’s doing its job, just too early?
the float charge doesn’t regain enough amp hours by the end of the day so we enter a night sail at an AH deficit. When we already had only 100AH useable it feels like we are loosing a fair chuck of useable energy.
Is the MPPT calibrated to the old batteries? Is this normal for new batteries and just ignore it? Don’t want to over charge, also it’s V hot - we just got to Panama and about to set off across the pacific, could the heat be making the voltage read higher than it is?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice
