I have a small solar setup (MPPT 100/30, Smart Shunt, 12v AGM batteries). There is some voltage-sensitive equipment that really wants 13.8v at night, but will tolerate down to 12v.
Am looking for a buck/boost converter to give me a regulated 13.8v, current draw typically 5-10A, probably 20A maximum continuous. Ideally with no additional batteries.
Is there an Orion that can be used just as a converter, not a charger? or something else?
I wish Victron had ONE comparison chart for ALL models. Otherwise I have to download the data sheets for each one and try to figure it out.
The first units I looked at seemed like they were 12.2V output only.
The Orion Tr-Smart 12 | 12-30 isolated says 12.2, but I see 10-15V adjustable. This could work nicely. Thanks for the recommendation - otherwise I would spend hours trying to find this.
The data sheet for the XS 12 | 12-50 and XS 1400 are impressive - very efficient.
Are there issues with RFI/EMI (e.g. HF or VHF radio noise) ?
The data sheet for the XS 1400 says it hasn’t passed the various standards for electromagnetic compatibility (eg ICES003, FCC Class B, et).
As far as i know since the orion xs are all the same family they would be in the same certificate classes.
Certification doesn’t guarantee no interference though, just that they meet a standard.
Installation quality, cable routing, ferrites, grounding, and antenna separation make a big difference, as im sure you know. There are several posts about issues when using Orion’s some install related discussions to minimise it.
