I am planning on connecting this coverter from my 48v AGM battery bank to my 12v AGM battery bank to keep it charged I but I am worried it is not a smart charger (i.e. it has bulk mode only) and will overcharge the 12v bank? I will also have a separate MPPT solar charger on the 12v bank. Thank you for any advice.
Hi. You can set it’s Output V manually, with a tiny screwdriver and multimeter. So can be set to a V that won’t cause damage.
Depends how you use it, where you set the V. The Remote port is useful if you want to set it up for an automated regular dose.
I have one set at ~13.9V for 2 hours daily. If you have other Victron kit, you can use Multiplus Assistants or a GX relay to drive the Remote. But a toggle switch and a bit of guesswork if you only want do it periodically. With V set to suit…
I chose to implement an Orion XS 12-12/50 downstream of my Orion Tr 48-12/30 to ensure that my target 12 volt battery received the proper charge profile. I configured the XS to have a maximum 5 amp charge current.
