Multiplus turning shore power off unexpectedly

While mooch docking at a friend’s in Phoenix, we had a strange occurrence this morning. Here are the conditions:

  • Multiplust 24|3000|70
  • Plugged into 15a home plug with limiter set to 13a on multiplus
  • little to no solar (early morning)
  • batts close to 100% (2 - 24v 200Ah)

While we had a small space heater on and an electric coffee pot - pulling more than the 15a circuit would handle (hitting the limit on the shore power set on the multiplus) The multiplus switched off the shore power. I checked and we did not trip the house breaker and still had power to the trailer. I thought the multiplus would simply assist with batt power and add that to the shore power, not completely turn off the shore power and use just battery power. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi @mike140sqft-journey
The Multi is designed to isolate ACIN if the “home” power doesn’t meet spec. Many genset users will have experienced this, but it’s not so common with grid supply.
But it may well be something else you don’t suspect. I once decided to rewire the plug on a power cord. When I removed it a small sign of melted plastic indicated a ‘dry joint’. Fixed that and never saw the issue again, after years of intermittent rejection I always blamed on something else.
The Multi can also be forced to relax it’s V and Hz rejection limits if needed.

So keep your eyes open. It may be giving you early warning of a deeper fault in your system.

Thanks for the advice!! I did additional investigation and thankfully the simple solution was the answer. I switched outlets on the house and the issues stopped. I am letting my friend know they have a bad plug. Thankful it is not an issues with a dry joint or some other early indication of something else.
