Multiplus II 48/5000-70 dual 80mm Fan bracket for better cooling!

For STL’s see multiple options:

Inspired by the ideas above I created my own version to install 2 P8 Arctic fans inside the bottom bracket of the Multiplus II 3/5 kVA. Fan speed is pwm controlled by a simple temperature controller.

@RienkP would you mind to share the STL

Thanks Nick! Inspired by you we had implemented a similar set up, adding extra cooling also to the box where we have our solar system.
You can find more information here

Also the diagram to connect everything in here

Our set up includes:

  • 3D Printing piece by Nick Ebben
  • 2 x 80mm Artic P8 Max fans
  • 2 x 140mm Artic P14 Max fans
  • 1 X DC-DC Buck 48V - 12V with 10A max (48V to 12V converter)
  • 1 X Thermostat XH-W3001 (Temperature controller set to 30ºC and place the thermometer on top of the inverter)

Hey Nick

I have a question regarding your connection of the fans:

Fans 12 v plus and minus go to a stepdown converter. Where does the 3rd PWM cable go? Into the Relais too?

The 48 V Cable plus and minus of the stepdown converter go to the relais K1( M in the screenshot) right?

Would be nice if you could explain your setup to me.

Thanks!

@vaursechs could you give me a hint on how to connect the Fans/STC to the relais please?

I don’t use the PWM cable, only + and -. The negative of the fans goes directly to the 12V source. The positive goes to the relay and from the relay to the 12V source.

@vaursechs Thanks! I’ll give it a try

Is there a software tuning for the internal fan curve or a rough setting(not disabled but lower) in any way? Even in sub freezing temps in my garage the fan ramps to full and makes a alternating looping frequency(also could be tremors in the wall structure) that is really irritating during the night when the electricity is cheap, but when I like to sleep in the next room near the garage. I could test the disabling of the internal fan and adding externals on the bottom, since right now the howling internal one is not acceptable. But is there any way to just turn it down a bit and not completely disable it. Seems like a missed opportunity not to add a middle ground to the fan curve.

NO, as far as I know it is a analog control system using a number of ntc’s in different locations connected in series. The only digittal option is to enable/disable the fan using an MP assistant (that can be controlled by other assistants or an external input).

I just ordered a 3x dual fan solution from Etsy to have additional flow to my 3 phase setup. Does anyone know if you DON’T disable the internal fan, will it result that the default fan will become less noisy as you add more cooling air flow to the bottom of the unit? Or does the default fan just ramp up to the same maximum rpm when the charger is running at full 70A in MP2 5000?

Hello, I have a Multiplus-II 48/10000 and at night the noise is quite annoying. Which fans do you recommend and what 3D model would be interesting to use?

Does anyone have a file for a dual fan setup for a MP2 3000? My daughter printed the one from the OP but it is a little too wide to fit my 3000.

Ordered the 5000 series solution from this supplier: https://www.etsy.com/shop/PetersIndustries?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=4348092502&from_page=listing

Used the “silent” assistant in Victron Connect programming on my Multiplus units to disable the fan.

This additional downward push airflow and negative Celsius ambient temperature still gives me 9-10kW (10,5kW constant with that irritating internal fan) of average charging power in total of 3 units. I do have a 15S battery, so 48 to 51V difference will give you even more power.

For the summer, I just disable that assistant to “closed” when enabled. So I can run it with full power when solar is maxing the MPPT and AC Fronius into the grid(when batteries are full, 200A converting to the grid from 450/200 MPPT source with 16kWp solar).

At summer I wont be charging at night time from the grid so it wont bother me when sleeping. During the day the noise from the garage wont bother me.

After 2-3 months of winter. 0 to -22C inverter ambient temps. The sound or lack there of is just perfect. I can just hear a gentle CONSTANT humming from the garage next to my bedroom. Only barely audible(when charging with 9400W, totally silent bellow 5000W) and a very nice low tone humming, with no frequency changes. Just as it should be from the factory. Just a shame that Victron does not provide this experience out of the box with better “audio solution”.

The new 6k5 Multiplus does have 2 internal fans, but I understood that it still has no curve optimizing to reduce noise. Just silent or full power as with the old 5000 series. Please correct me if this has been changed via firmware update.
