Multiplus 2 trickle charger

I have a 24v house bank of LIFEPO4 batteries with a 24v MP2. The boat lives on a swing mooring (no shore power) but has a large solar array (1.2kw). My engine battery bank is 500ah of 12v FLA batteries. The engine bank starts the engines and runs the bilge pumps, that’s about it. It also has a dedicated alternator. Boat is used on weekends and might sit unused for a month on occasion.

I’m considering how to best keep my engine bank charged during down time and am wondering if the trickle charger output of the MP2 will work if I add one of the small Orion IP67 24/12-10 dc to dc converters on the output. The 4amp output will double to 8 after voltage conversion and I think that’s enough current given it’s just a maintenance charge I need. However, I don’t know how the simple diode charger in the MP2 will work with a voltage converter.

my other option is a smart Orion 24/12-30 but that seems overkill. It’s not a cost thing, it’s simplicity.

thoughts?

The output voltage is fixed at 12V, this is too low to keep lead acid batteries healthy. This probably discounts using one of these simple converters.

Is there a reason a Bluesmart charger wouldn’t work? You could just plug it into an outlet since you have an inverter. They come as small as 4 amps.

thanks to both replies. As to my DC converter question, “d’uh” of course it does and im an idiot. To the bluesmart, yes that would work but I dont plan to leave the inverter on all the time so DC to DC is the way to go.

I can go with the larger Orion unit, its probably the best way to go.
