Multiplus and 750ah AGM bank fitted in a yacht. Recently had an incident of very low battery bank voltage when the SmartShunt was reporting 100% SOC. When a grid supply is connected to the Multi it is in Bulk phase charging for only a few minutes before Absorption phase. Because Absorption phase is dependent upon Bulk phase duration the Absorption phase is also short so the charger will move to Float while still charging at 20A and then fairly quickly trickle down to nothing then in to Storage phase. I think this has led to undercharging and has tricked the Shunt in to misreporting SoC. Iām thinking of changing the charging algorithm from four stage adaptive to a more time dependent structure. But it seems as a DIY user I canāt change Multi configurations using the Victron Connect via the USB/Mk3 because I donāt have the Enable Settings password! Any thoughts?
So no one replied to you Robert? I have the same problem, I am offshore on a yacht with a new Victron system but with cloud for a week, I need to use my little portable generator. The Multiplus seems to be demanding too much power from the Genset and causing it to trip. A Victron expert told me to merely change the AC input Control, via the menu in Victron Connect, after I connected to the Multiplus via the MK3-USB interface. BUT no way says Victron - I am not allowed to make this tiny change to make my system work, and prevent my batties going flat, unless I have done a Victron course and got a password ! Huh? Seriously, they sold me all this gear and told me I could configure it myself, but then require a password that I do not have, to configure it correctly.
Unless somethings changed Iāve only had to sign up for a victron pro account which took 5min to do, just as easy as signing up for this site. I canāt even remember now if that was even necessary for the use of the program but I did it anyways
From there it was of course only a 30sec change on the laptop to limit my charger so it wasnāt overloading my generator (later got a cerbo and could change it on the display)
Using multiplus for a couple of years now, never needed a passwordā¦unless ofc somebody set a gridcode ???
If your shunt is inadvertently synchronising to 100% your charged voltage setting on the shunt is probably too low, it is best set 0.2V below absorption voltage. See the FAQ
The password is given in the VictronConnect configuration guide for VE bus products. Lowercase āzzzā. It stops inadvertent changes.
It is also easily found by searching Multiplus settings password in Google.
If you have a GX device, you can often set the ac current limit there if the Multiplus setting āoverruled by remoteā is enabled.
Thanks, thatās very helpful, Iāll have a look at that when Iām back at the boat.
Robert
awesome yes a dealer told me and i made the config changes. all is good now
zzz thats it, easy ! Allowed me to enter the config system and make the change, so the generator now powers the system as a backup to solar. Awesome thanks guys. Yes it seems the password thing has been recently added to prevent āinadvertentā changed done by newbies playing with their systems and causing headaches for everyone.
Thanks - great advice, I am learning more every day
