I have a Lynx Smart BMS 1000 NG controlling 3 x 12v 300AH Lithium NG batteries connected in parallel. The batteries are charged by a Victron SmartSolar Charge Controller 250/100 with VE.Can interface. For the first time in 5 months, the Balancer Status is showing Imbalanced. See the screen shots attached.
Should I be concerned and what should I do about it?
Thanks for the quick response Matthias. If I change the Charged Voltage setting from 14.0 volts to 14.5 volts, will that fix the issue? Should I also raise the Absorption Time from 2 hours to 4 hours?
I could not find anything specific to Imbalance solutions in the Lynx Smart BMS 1000 NG manual.
The charged voltage refers to when the SOC is reset to 100% and this has no effect on the absorption voltage which is set at 14.0V and is not user configurable. Basically it is normally a case of time at 14.0V.
Imbalance is covered in the battery manual, Section 6.1 not the Lynx BMS manual.
BUT if your mppt remains under external control from the BMS then these changes will have no effect. If the controller is disconnected from the BMS then watch cloesly but luckily with the Lymx BMS the contactor will still provide protection.
Hi pwfarnell, how do I disconnect my MPPT from BMS control? Appears there is only an option to Reset the BMS Control, after which the BMS Control will be re-enabled automatically when the BMS is detested.
How would you change the Settings on my MPPT and/or the Lynx Smart BMS to balance the batteries?
Unfortunately, the only battery charger I have on my boat is the MPPT connected to 3 x 580 watt solar panels.
In the Lynx BMS you can increase the absorption time from the default 2 hours, that should be enough. If you need to force an absorption then you can increase the SOC threshold to above the SOC being displayed.
If you disconnect the MPPT from your GX device then I assume it will go into standalone operation with the updated settings, but you loose monitoring and control.
Thanks for the quick reply. I will put the MPPT settings back to original and increase the Absorption Time in the BMS Setup to 4 hours for a couple of days.
Thank heavens there are people around who understand this new technology and are willing to help people like me.
