[SOLVED] Help needed, Lithium NG batteries wont balance

Hi,

I have 4 x 12v lithium ng 300ah batteries in Parrallel, connected with Lynx power in and Lynx BMS NG. All running latest firmware.

After two months since I last charged it up (and cells were balanced) I connected the boat to Shore Power to recharge, and batteries had 30% remaining.

I have now done three recharge cycles with 8h absorption charge for balancing using the skylla 65Amp charger, and the batteries only reach 88% charge (I could sync this soc value) but the celles continue to say imbalance, even though lowest and highest cell voltages are the same value of 3.55v.

I also note that the skylla will not stay in advanced settings mode.

Whats wrong and how do I solve it?

Thank you.

Alex

Have you confirmed that the batteries got up to 14.0V with a tail current of less than 4% of 1200 = 48A. The Lynx NG BMS only charges at 14.0V so that is what you should set the Skylla to. Where did you set the 8h absorption. If you set that in VictronConnect for the Lynx NG BMS then that has no effect, the Lynx NG BMS only runs absorption until the tail current bis met, the SOC syncs to 100% and the cells are balanced. I do not know the Skylla, do you have that controlled by a GX device via DVCC so the Lynx NG BMS controls it. As above, your first check is the battery voltage and current history.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the reply.

1: The skylla is not my favourite victron device, and sadly cannot participate in DVCC even though it is connected with VE.Can. Also it still uses a fixed cable from the BMS to the relay on Skylla for Do Not Charge signal. I am actually not aware of any AC/DC Charger (not Multi) that can do DVCC.
2: I have set the 8h absorption on fixed time in victronconnect in the Skylla. I did also set it in victronconnect in the BMS.
3: The charge voltage is set as per screenshot by choosing the smart lithium option in victronvonnect and I cant change that.
4: I have now sync the SoC to 100% and will watch.
5: I will watch the battery voltage, as well and report back.

Many thanks.

As an aside below GX Device screenshots show how the Skylla does not integrate that well, and in fact anything that is not a Multi device does not play well with GX Device monitoring.

Below screenshot of the GX Device, is weird because you cant see that the Skylla is present or charging. The Grid power is coming from a power meter and the AC load is the Skylla.

Yes, I confirm the battery reaches 14v and the status shows the balancer as “Balancing”.

Ok, all a bit strange.

The battery is now balanced. The only change I made was to Sync SoC to 100%, everything else is the same.

Thanks again for the tips.
