MultiPlus-II 6k5 power in a three-phase ESS with GridCode Germany

Hello,

I’m a little confused, or perhaps I just can’t find the right answer.

According to the datasheet, the MultiPlus II 6k5 has 6 kW of continuous inverter power and, depending on the battery voltage, around 5.5 kW of charging power. In a three-phase setup, that would be a substantial 18 kW and would be ideal for me. However, I keep finding statements on the forum and in the certificate saying, as far as I can tell, that there is supposed to be a limit of 13.8 kVA. Where does this come from, and why does it exist? In three-phase operation, there shouldn’t be any limitation, should there? The 4.6 kVA limit is intended to prevent phase imbalance in single-phase operation, isn’t it—or am I completely misunderstanding something?

I would operate the units as an ESS, so the focus would be on grid-connected operation. When the three 6k5 units are used in a 3-phase ESS with Grid Code D, are they really throttled to 13.8 kVA? That would then hardly be any different from the 5000 model. And if so, does the 13.8 kVA refer to both feeding into the grid and drawing from it (charging)?

As we’ve already discussed the subject several times, unfortunately that’s still the situation as of today.
Even in three-phase operation, the devices are limited to around 4.6 kW (for both charging and discharging).

I don’t know to what extent this could be changed with a different certificate.

Thanks, it’s a shame there’s nothing new on that front.

For the 8kVA, 10kVA and 15kVA models, there is an additional separate EZE specifically for the three-phase configuration. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Certificate-ESS-VDE-AR-N-4105-2018-11-EZE-MultiPlus-II-3-phase-configuration-48V-8kVA,-10kVA,-15kVA-(Germany).pdf

That would probably also be necessary for the 6k5 and the brand-new 10k in order to operate them at 100% output. Although with the 10k, it might be clever to go with 9.9kW so as to remain below 30kW for three-phase operation.

Until then, a footnote in the German data sheet would at least be appropriate. *grid-connected, throttled to 4.6kW/13.8kW
