Hello . I’ve installation that runs of 550kVA cat generator powering up concrete mixing plant and gravel crushing gear . There is 45kVA ESS setup on this to charge battery and keep stuff online when generator is off at night and in between cycles . however I would like to measure consumption from the generator to the heavy machinery with meter . I can’t send entire load via Quattro as amps are very hi and wouldn’t be able to do with 3 x 15 kVA . I need ac load side meter with clamps
. Can I use any meter to be set to run @ 500A plus ? Large ct and adjust ratios ?
A Carlo Gavazzi EM530 Meter connected to GX via a RS485 USB adapter is capable of monitoring large supplies.
Requires Current Transformers. You could use 1000A/5A split core CTs with it.
Yes any CT with 5A secondary can be programmed to work. You have to enter CT rate.in meter setup. Primary/Secondary. For 1000A CTs a value of 200 would be entered (1000/5)
I seen in setup meter role can be set as ‘AC Loads’
I use several EM530s here with external 5A CTs, works great. But I only go to 200A.
You have to get the right EM530 part number, see
Finding 1000A/5A split-core CTs that are big enough for your cables could be a challenge.
In the US, I found these on Amazon.
To date biggest configuration I’ve done is 400/5A rate with the EM530s however shouldn’t be a problem going bigger.
Yes important to get the right model configuration. Whilst I’m in the UK I purchase them from the US Mouser Electronics
stock code

Current transformers I always get from a specialist energy meter dealer.
Have got large frame ones like below before. Handy if there’s parallel cables.
I use the ethernet Carlo Gavacci meter EM24 with 1000A CT’s as gridmeter
Measuring everyday into 700A and sometimes into 900A while voltage very stable.
I prefer ethernet as during last 15 years of RS485 I had more troubles with those interfaces going bad than the ethernet versions. I still use both but have not bought RS485 anymore recently.
Oh great news , thanx . Em24 is on V price list but I believe that one isn’t ct version ? I’m I right or wrong ? where can I buy one ?
Indeed the EM24 that is on stock at Victron eorder is not with CT’s. I buy that version from Carlo Gavaci dealer.
