Are there any advancement and/or solutions to SIM cards to be used in the Globallink 520 in the UK?
My unit has been rendered unusable for a long time now. Potentially unresellable as well, at least in the UK.
Bumping this up as my Globallink is still disconnected (about a year now).
Is there any LTE-M SIM cards that work in the UK and can be purchased by an individual?
I was looking at Things Mobile as they offer an LTE-M IoT SIM, but it’s not clear it is affected by the LTE-M roaming ban by O2.
Soracom plan01s (Global plans) SIMs do work with LTE-M on the UK.
I activate a new SIM yesterday and the Globallink connected to the network (o2) within a couple of minutes.
I’ve just powered my unit back up as it was thrown into the cupboard as a paperweight. It now connects to vodafone UK instead of O2. This might be related to vodafone deploying lte-m network wide in August - Vodafone and LTE-M: Making IoT for everyone .
O2 must of gone back on their choice to block roaming providers using their lte-m network, maybe they felt threated by vodafone allowing it.
Not sure whatever happened to the victron’s hint of allowing the globallink to connect via wifi.
I left mine connected and running (for one year now) with the original 1NCE SIM hoping it would connect to Vodafone, but never did.
I experimented two other SIMs in the last few weeks with no success and then found the solution with Soracom. Their tech support has been very good in helping me with this.
I was hoping to get on Vodafone with the NCE SIM after August, but I suspect there is not coverage for that where I am.
All solved.
I understand this was caused by O2 stopping roaming, but I would have appreciated a slightly better support from Victron, even through a guide here on the forums or their site (not sure if I missed anything though).
As a note: the 1NCE SIM still isn’t working. Tried it again yesterday eve.
