I have purchased a new Globallink 520. Connected it to power, but blue light keeps blinking untill reboot. I swopped out the sim card with a working local sim card. It did the same. After trying different working local sim card, the light flashed blue 4-5 times and then the red light stayed on. Could my device be defective?
You can view the status of a GlobalLink by connecting to it over Bluetooth using the VictronConnect mobile app. There you can check the signal strength as well as a few other diagnostic values that might help in figuring out what the problem is.
If it seems your GlobalLink cannot find a cellular network to connect to, check whether your local cellular provider provides LTE-M coverage in your area. Some cellular providers have decided to not yet enable LTE-M support everywhere where LTE is available. Your phone is usually connecting to the network using regular LTE (without the M), so while checking whether you have cellular coverage is a good first step it doesn’t always guarantee a GlobalLink will work too.
If LTE-M is supported in your area, check the signal strength and the location where you’ve mounted the GlobalLink. If the signal strength is weak and/or the GlobalLink is mounted inside a location that might cause bad reception, such as inside some buildings or vehicles, an external antenna might help. You can usually check this by temporarily moving the GlobalLink to a location where you are confident the signal strength is better to see if indeed signal strength is the issue and thus adding an external antenna might help the GlobalLink reach the cellular network.
With regards to the problem you mentioned with the other SIM card: If the module gives an error after just flashing blue a few times a common cause is that a PIN code is set on the custom SIM card. If that is the case, either configure the PIN code via VictronConnect, or usually it’s possible to disable the PIN code on the SIM card by inserting it in a phone and changing the “Lock SIM” or similarly named setting.
