Feedback welcome on my planned installation

I’m planning a relatively small Victron system and would be interested to hear what you think about the setup.

Some additional information:

  • The main purpose of the system is to store surplus solar energy when the electric car is already fully charged or is not connected.
  • The battery will only feed energy back into the household electrical system, not into the public grid.
  • I plan to use a dynamic electricity tariff, which means that the battery will also be charged from the grid during low-price periods in winter.
  • The existing 10 kWp south-facing PV system and the Sungrow inverter are already installed, and I do not want to replace the inverter. The energy meter is intended to integrate the existing PV generation into the Victron system without requiring any software workarounds.
  • The Viessmann heat pump only provides access to its power consumption data through a paid service. I therefore intend to use an additional energy meter to make its consumption visible in the Victron system.

My questions:

  • I am by no means an expert when it comes to fuses and system protection. Are the proposed fuse ratings suitable? All DC cable runs will be shorter than 5 metres.
  • The main battery disconnect switch between the two Lynx Power In units prevents the otherwise neat direct connection between them. Is there a better way to arrange this?
  • The batteries will be installed in a dry garage attached to the house. The minimum temperature last in winter was +5°C. I would prefer to avoid the additional cost of batteries with integrated heating. Does anyone have practical experience with batteries under these conditions?

The final installation and connection will, of course, be carried out by a qualified electrician.

I’m doing something similar to your setup but single phase so its a bit simpler and as I’m replacing an existing battery system (GivEnergy battery and inverter) with a generic 16kWh Lithium battery unit with its own very capable BMS. Everything up to the AC isolator for the battery system is already there, so I’m happy to do the installation myself from there. I’ve spoken with my DNO over the phone and they were very helpful, as I’m not intending to export anything (or up to 3.68kW from my existing FIT compliant rooftop PV array) then I can go G99 Fast track If I install an energy meter (ET112/EM112) to monitor Grid feed and limit/lock the export on the Victron Multiplus GX (same as yours) so max total export to grid is 3860w, the G99 is already in so I’m waiting for their permission before going ahead.

Are you connecting any loads to AC-OUT1 or 2? I’ll be connecting essential loads like up & downstairs lights and fridge freezer socket etc to AC-OUT1 to provide battery backup capability to those circuits. I cant comment on your MPPT inverters or the Lynx as I’m not using those. I’d love to hear how you get on with yours.
