Et112 disconnecting under load

Anyone else been having this issue? The et112, when bulk charging, keeps disconnecting. All’s well when inverting, but it’s playing havoc with me trying to charge quickly when the power is cheap. Basically the Multiplus fires up, works for a seemingly random time and then communication the with energy meter is lost. Then the Multiplus stops charging, waits for a while for the meter to come back online then ramps up until it stops again. I’ve tried unplugging and rebooting everything, even switching off grid to the house and energy meter, but the cycle continues…… thanks!

HI

Is your connection to the et112 ok? Are you using a rs485 to usb from victron? Is the meter terminated? Cerbo, Multiplus gx or pi?

It’s a Cerbo S with an original victron USB cable. It only started doing it the last few versions of the OS so initially I wondered if it might be a software glitch. It’s been fine for the last 18months with the full Multiplus and battery set up and probably another two years before that simply logging energy use. I’ve ordered another so I’ll swap them out and see if it’s just tired. Not sure what you mean about it being terminated though didn’t think it needed it being USB…. and thanks for taking the time to respond.

termination is required for rs485, mostly its not done on short cables, but it could help with errors

See this screenshot on how to do that

Thanks, so basically link 5 and 3. Don’t remember doing that when I installed it, so will check and try that tomorrow if I didn’t and let it run while the battery fills when the power is cheap and see how we get on. Thanks again.

Also take note of the singular connection to ground that the shield has. Multiple connections could lead to current flowing over the shielding

Will do! Thanks. Will report back tomorrow.

Ok. New unit hasn’t arrived yet, but I tried linking 5 and 3 and that just made the meter disappear from the Victron system entirely. Slightly flustered I then removed the link and then removed the meter from the Cerbo (removing disconnected devices). It’s reappeared and now seems to be stable. So basically it’s the same as it was (which, to be fair has always worked) so the solution was either rebooting the meter or removing and allowing it to be re detected, possibly both. Mind you, it’s only been charging for ten minutes so it’s early days…… will report back when it’s had time to charge fully over the next few hours .

Last update: Seems it’s probably a dying meter. After about half an hour the same issues started happening again. I’ve swapped it out for a new one and so far all’s working properly.

Thanks both of you for your help with this.

You could try the carlo gavazzi UCS software for these meters, maybe there is a setting wrong/corrupted? You can connect the meter to this software with the victron rs485/usb cable
