ESS solar edge questions

Hi,

I want to setup my SolarEdge SE3500 HD wave with Victron ESS. I read in the documentation: Single phase inverter with HD-Wave technology with CPU version 4.8.xx
My CPU version is 4.21.23. Does that mean there is no option for me to get the setup working? Does anyone have experience with this?

The functionality required to make this work has a minimum version requirement.
If you can’t update it, then that feature will not be present.

Hi,

4.21 is upper then 4.8, so you can use your SE wired to AC-OUT1.

Extract from SE manual :

Single phase inverter with HD-Wave technology with CPU version 4.8.xx or later configured by SetApp

Best Regard,

Patrick

@patrick is 4.21 upper then 4.8? I have never seen this. It’s 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8. Or is this another way of numbering?

21 is definitely above 8.
I read it as 4.2.1, which it isn’t.
4.21 is from end of last year, so fairly recent. The latest being 4.22

So maybe another question on how i want to change my setup:
I have a solaredge SE 3500 with 12 x 355wp panels and an MPPT with 3 panels.
I have a Multiplus 2 VA5000 48V.
14,7Kwh 48V battery.
Cerbo GX.

What i want is the same as the MPPT is doing, if i have a surplus of solar power and the selling price is negative to switch of the solar.
So i need to do the following:

  1. Connect the solaredge inverter to the AC1 of the multiplus
  2. Setup the solaredge AFS
    Edit P0: 50.2Hz, 100% Power
    and P1: 51.2Hz, 0% Power
  3. Setup ESS with the same values.

Is that it?

Mr Blonde (Nice! I love that Tarantino movie :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:),

You can connect your SE inverter to AC-OUT1. Just make sure to select the appropriate energy supplier profile for your country through the Dynamic ESS parameters.

And yes, for most European countries, the frequency shift values you mentioned are correct.
However, you’ll need to connect terminals L1 and V on your SE communication board, and contact SolarEdge support to activate the feature if it’s not available in your app.

And yep — x.21.x is higher than x.8.x

Have a wonderful day,
Patrick

@patrick, thanks a lot. I also read that you can access the setting when connected to the SE wifi via the local IP address of the SE.
Tarantino is great, you are the first one to mention it!

Maybe i understood frequency shifting not fully. I want an autmoated setup where the victron cerbo GX can disable the SolarEdge when i have a solar surplus and the selling price per kWh is negative. My victron mppt’s are doing this, but i want my SolarEdge also to reduce power or shut down when needed.

For now i created a modbus connection from my solar edge to my home assistant. I can control my SE power output, but not yet automated.
