Hello Everyone 1st Time Posting and looking for help
Ill post as much info as I can hopefully you guys are better at this than me every day is a learning day haha..
System
2x miltiplus ii 5000kva usa 120v units in split phase for 240v with the ess assistant installed into the inverters
The system is setup as a off grid 100% of the time using battery and solar for 100% covering the entire loads of the home…
I have my victron lynx m10 shunt and cerbo gx setup to switch to grid at 20% soc to protect my batterys from going 2 low. (This happens at 19%)
*Before makeing any changes
System runs great with the ess but i had to set my grid setpoint at 100w or the system will sometimes feed back to grid… showing a -20 or -30w to grid. I do not have net metering so i cant feed power back without getting charged for it so I set this at 100w and im always pulling a positive from grid.
Since I wanna be off grid and the bills just keep going up near me I naturally wanna reduce the draw to 0w from grid.
So I seen victron had ess ct transformer clamps and I spoke to my victron dealer and was told these would allow me to do just that.. So I purchased them and followed the basic info i got from my seller to set the grid setpoint to 0w and unhook the jumper from the COM and INT and install the red wire from the ct transformer into EXT and white into COM
I was instructed to leave the grid metering on inverter/Charger and not change to external meter.
*Now here is where the fun begins
Before I get into the meat and potatoes I believe it’s possibly a program setting error that will need to be addressed by plugging in the MK3 but I’m not sure what I’m looking for I don’t seem to see anything online about doing this ct install at least that makes sense to my simple smooth brain apparently haha.
“again keep in mind everything has been working flawlessly with the ESS exactly how I set it up until trying to install the two CT Transformer clamps”
After installing the CT clamps and putting the wires exactly how I was instructed as stated above with the wiring for the CT transformer clamps and Grid setpoint at 0w and leaving the grid metering set at inverter charger i watched my grid input on my gx display goto 0w on invert L2 and L1 was jumping between -5 -6 -8w feeding back to grid…. Not good…
I then observed both my inverters switch off from inverting and goto mains on and bulk chargeing but my cerbo gx screen showed no power coming from grid it was still showing between 0 -5 and -8 Watts from L1 inverter and 0 watts from L2 inverter and my loads also went to 0w on the cerbo gx screen aka the output of the inverters and the cerbo gx screen read bulk charging for the 2 multiplus 2 inverter chargers…
Things I Tried
Confused i tried to change the grid metering to external meter and when done the cerbo gx screen showed the multi plus ii 5000kva units went into bypassing and it stoped charging the batterys but still my loads were 0w on L1 and L2 on the ceebo gx screen…
So i switched it back to inverter/charger and again it just keeps charging with the mains light on and bulk but the cerbo gx screen shows 0w coming from grid and 0w to the loads… it is most deff pulling from grid to charge the batterys because you can hear the transfer switch click and chargers go under load and the fans come on..
this is my first time trying to install these clamps and save myself from paying grid money
with 100w constant draw 24/7.
I asked my dealer and they dont really offer ess support and i was reading some of the ess manuals online but im at a loss. “aka smooth brain haha”
The end result im just looking for with the ct transformers installed with the ess is to run the system on inverter battery solar 24/7 and when soc drops to 20% aka 19% change over to grid as a backup to protect the batterys and keep the grid pressure at 0w no feedback and i thought these would work.
Anyhow I gave up and put the jumpers back in for COM and INT and put the grid setpoint back to 100w and my system went back to normal…
Its Easter Sunday and I wish you all a good holiday.
Any info would be great.. i have a feeling its gonna be a software setpoint issue.. but thats as detailed as i can put it… i can get photos if needed ill attempt changes again next weekend when its not a holiday haha
