Hi quick question - i would like to see graphs etc. and be able to adjust my float and absorption settings etc. I have a 12/3000 and a victron shunt with Victron Connect. Do i need to have the VE Bus Smart Dongle to do these thinsg --??? i can;'t find a way to just using Connect …thanks jerry
The VE Bus Smart Dongle is for monitoring not for programming.
To program a Multiplus (or other VE Bus inverter / charger) you use one of the following methods. The options are limited using the DIP switches (option 1), for optimum programming use options 2, 3 or 4. Links added for all options except 1 as this needs the specific model manual.
- The DIP switches, details in the relevent manual.
- A smartphone using the VictronConnect app with a Mk3 USB interface between the phone and the Multiplus
- A PC/laptop using the VE Configure program with a Mk3 USB interface between the PC/laptop and the Multiplus.
- A PC/laptop using the VE Configure program through a GX device if you have one connected to the Multiplus and the internet.
yay perfect - i have read through many pages of the manual and never saw it like you put it (or don;t remember). Thanks I’ll get an MK3 USB adapter…I’d like to run some tests on why after resetting my SOC to 100% it doesn’t maintain that when on shore power (Volts stable)… it reaches SOC of 0 after 4 or 5 days and stays there. My 12/3000 is set on Inverter, I don’t have a draw if on shore power… ap - Jerry
If you are on shorepower and set the device to inverter only it will be using the dc power. When on shorepower it can be a good idea to set it to charger only. The self use power for the inverter comes from the battery if it is set to inverter only. A Multiplus only has one dc to ac converter, it is used backwards for ac to dc charging. Setting it to work as inverter only stops charging and the self use comes from the battery.
OH my - i never got that from reading - the manual is so tech heavy…Thanks I am running out to change it now - Jerry
Or you can set it to on then it will keep charging and the batteries full and if shorepower fails swap to inverting seamlessly.
that’s exactly what i did! - still pretty new vehicle for us - bought used and it’s a good van - but never had this level of “electric” aux power…long trip coming up just about everything is set up “inverted power” in this van but- i’m used to a DC only van — going to be boondocking on next trip - next steps will be figuring out solar have 400ah batteries (Battleborn) and 800 W of solar panels (Rich Solar) and a Rich Solar controller. Can you give me the "practical aspect of how/when the solar works in conjunction with the alternator charging like you did above with the shore power explanation as we will be moving cams about every 2 or 3 days Western US - usually get a good amount of sun. I would greatly appreciate it - Jerry
Hard to say without knowing how your system is set up. Charging lithium from an alternator usually has a DC to DC charger or alternator controller. Normally they should both work together if the batteries are low and can take full charge. One thing I have done before is set the solar voltages 0.1V higher than the inverter or alternator so if solar can fulfil all the demands then it takes priority as it is free.
I’ve gotta say I don;t expect you to answer over the weekend - that is above and beyond the call IMHO for a forum…I just noticed I can;t use my iPhone to look at settings or set things… so that means only using my mac - I wonder if my wifes ipad air could be used ? So i am confused now about the cable - It looks like I can plug the MK3-USB right in my mac…so would a regular adapter work if it was uSB to C for the iPad Air?
Have a good evening . Jerry
I am not Victron staff doing a job here, just another Victron user.
I know nothing about Macs. On Android you can convert the USB end to other types. Have a search here for Mac or apple. Some of the Victron programs only work on PC and you need an emulator.
