Different display of VE.Smart Networking devices in Victron Connect via local and VRM access

I have a VE.Smart Network consisting of Smart Battery Sense, Smart Solar Mppt, and Orion XS.

All devices are displayed correctly via Victron Connect Local, and the VE.Smart Networking icon also appears.

When I go via Victron Connect VRM via GX device, there is no VE Smart Networking icon for the Smart Solar MPPT.

For the Orion XS, the VE.Smart Networking icon is displayed, but it does not show that data is being received.

Bug or feature?

If you use a GX device you should not use VE smart networking, what GX device are you using?

Hi Mac,

I use the GX device only for remote configuration and control of the battery voltages in a campervan over LTE. There is no BMV installed, no DVCC is used.

After your post i checked the VE.Smart Networking manual.

The description Is it not so clear , there is no source for the battery voltage and current….

When the MPPT or Orion XS is connected to a GX device that sends the battery current, the value from the GX device is used, so the battery current will not show up in the VE.Smart Networking menu (see also chapter 5: Limitations).

And the original question was why the VE.Networking icon appears locally but not via VRM.

A bug i guess, but again using a GX device with a VE smart network is not supported.

This just states that if the GX device is used to control current on the MPPT or orion it will no longer show up in the VE smart network. I don’t think this is relevant in your situation.

I understand the text to mean that a GX device cannot be integrated into a VE.Smart network via Bluetooth. Orion XS and Smart Solar MPPT are connected with VE.Direct cables to the GX device.

The Limitations and FAQ sections describe the prioritization of data from the VE.Smart Network and GX device. Simultaneous use is not ruled out.

Simultaneous use is not ruled out, but it can result in erratic / unexpected behaviour at times. If you are experiencing such behaviour, then removing the VE Smart Network is usually recommended to eliminate it as a source of problems.

Unfortunately, the VE.Smart Network is sleeping like Sleeping Beauty., with too few truly useful features. Yet the idea of connecting everything via Bluetooth is ingenious, especially for smaller vehicles, campers, and boats.

What I really miss with the VE.Smart Network is a display for showing the measured values that uses little power.

Of course, I can read everything via the Victron Connect app, but that means I have to pick up my smartphone. It’s not without reason that so many people (myself included) find the Android GX WiFi display so ingenious. A Cerbo GX with a wired display or Erkrano GX is often beyond the means of small vehicles in terms of cost and installation options. Furthermore, not every vehicle has the space and need for several hundred ampere hours of battery, Multiplus, etc.

Most smaller installations use a battery monitor with shunt for this purpose.

The BMV series is a little old-fashioned.
I like to see all the values at a glance.
