Delete VRM alarm logs?

Is there a way to delete/clear the VRM alarm logs? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find an option for it.

Thanks,

Ted

No, they persist for ever and ever. The option to clear the log has been requested often but not implemented.

Interesting.

Thank you for the answer.

What purpose would deleting alarm logs achieve?
Active alarms can be cleared, but the logs are a record for which personally i find useful to see historical issues.

Hi @Backroads4me,

The alarm logs (and other event logs) for a site are not able to be deleted individually.

The method to remove them is to delete the entire VRM site, which will also permanently delete all other records and history, and start the site again.

Did you mean for this to be helpful?

It’s one of those situations where it’s most helpful to have a complete and accurate record of the site (which is why we also don’t allow modification to the other logged data).

There are situations where there have been a lot of nuisance alarms that clutter the log, but unfortunately they are caught out by the design decision.

When it’s helpful to delete the whole site and start again is after an installation or commissioning process, there might be some alarms (low battery, overload etc) that are generated during the commissioning and then it’s helpful for the installer to delete the whole site and hand over a clean installation history to the end-user.

You didn’t explain your circumstances, so it’s difficult to be any more helpful than just explaining how the site works, and why.

I’m troubleshooting infrequent momentary low voltage alarms and thought it would be helpful to clear the old data after I make a change to make it easier to monitor how the change affected the frequency instead of manually tracking the time stamps. I just thought I was missing the option somewhere since I don’t think I’ve ever seen an end user device that didn’t allow for clearing the Alarm log UI. I get keeping them on the device for warranty or tech support reasons, but seeing that unchangeable list of past failures is giving me eye twitches. My inner neat freak is screaming for a ‘Clear All’ button."

It’s a bit annoying, but certainly not something I can’t work around though. :upside_down_face:

Thank you for the time; I appreciate that I at least got an answer this time.
