Hi, my grid tied solar system has been running for 2.5 years, with the Cerbo-GX linking to VRM via an ADSL line, with no problem. I recently switched over to Starlink, and for some reason, the communications are very erratic. Operats fine for a few days, then nothing for 10 hours, then back on etc. The Starlink is working perfectly with my CCTV, Tv streaming, internet etc, with typical speeds of 300mbps DL and 25mbps UL.
I have tried linking the Cerbo-GX to the Starlink route with a CAT5 cable and with Wifi, no difference.
I have taken up the issue with Starlink, who believe there is no problem on their side, as everything else is working normally.
I ran Starlink for well over a year here, with zero issues with VRM. Though, I did use my own router with the Starlink router in Bridge mode. It could be a Starlink router issue, if you’re using it?
Thanks, I am connected directly to the Starlink route. I did some investigating and the issue of rebooting the Cerbo-GX came up, mine is not set to ‘reboot device when no contact’, would you recommend this?
Probably not, the Cerbo isn’t the problem, it’s the Starlink router is pretty poor. It runs on a modified version of DD-WRT, and whatever Starlink did to it, it’s pretty well broken.
Do you have an ethernet dongle on the router? If you don’t, I’d highly recommend getting one and connecting the Cerbo to ethernet, rather than WiFi.
Currently Cerbo is linked to one of the 2 ethernet ports on the Starlink Gen 3 Route, using a 5 metre CAT5 cable. I believe the Starlink software updates every 3-5 days ,resulting in a reboot, typically at 2am, on checking the scheme’s status via VRM, it would have been off line for 3-4 hours, which points me to the Starlink update / reboot event. I would disconnect and reconnect the network cable to the Cerbo (but never reboot it) which would have no effect, would just wait for it to reconnect, 8 to 36 hours later the app is updated with realtime data and all is back to normal, until the next Starlink software update. The next time the Cerbo - VRM connection is dropped, I’ll try rebooting the Cerbo, to see it that resolves the issue, will post the result. regards
