Can I use BatteryProtect reversed to protect a battery from the alternator?

I am installing a Winston 12V LYP 90A battery, which is rated for max 16A and 3C.
The battery does not come with a BMS, and is neither suppsed to be used with one.
(Yes, these batteries are pretty extreme.)

However, I would like to protect it from a possible short circuite in the alternator.
Using a BatteryProtect “reversed” (connecting D+ on “In” and battery + on “Out”), would be an economic solutiuon and should both protect the battery against to high current and voltage, but will it work?
The documentation talks about using it this way between a charger and battery, but not alternator and battery.
