Can I manually switch over to charging when using ESS without interrupting power?

I’m waiting on getting meter installed and monitoring my Solaredge system hooked up.
In the meantime can i switch to “Charger only” manually when I have enough solar to cover charging and house loads without interrupting grid power from the multiplus II?

You selected the ESS tag for your question.
With ESS configuration that should happen automatically.

If you don’t use ESS give us a bit more information about your system.

Hi Matthais,

I did choose ESS in the setup but at the moment the system is really just operating on a timed basis. I have a Multiplus II GX 5000/70 set up on an essential loads panel and I’m currently charging the battery over night on a cheap rate using a time assistant. I have purchased the meter needed to monitor the rest of house consumption but I’m waiting on the electrician to install it. I also have a 9.2kW Solaredge (SE8K) system that I have to connect via Modbus to the Victron but I’m waiting on information from Solaredge on how to set that up (the answer I got first up was “you can’t”). Because I have a lot of excess solar at the moment i was wondering if I manually switch over while using ESS to charger only mode will the inverter go into Bypass mode or will it just disconnect the panel it’s connected to. I can just test it but I’m finding it difficult in my house set up to find a time that’s convenient.

It’s pretty easy to disable the charger in node-red. I do this overnight because I have 3 ESS systems and if I don’t they charge from each other. Once you get the meter you will be able to charge from excess solar. I’m not sure if your solaredge will be grid-tied or AC-coupled. If you want to charge from solar MPPTs are very good. This is what my flow looks like I send a 1 to a function that checks the time and if outside 5 pm and before 6:30 am let it thru otherwise from 6:31 am to 4:49 pm send a 0 so it chargers from the grid-tied excess solar seen from the grid meter.

Solaredge is 3 phase grid tied. I do use HA so I might try NodeRed.

So in case any one else runs into this issue I can give you my input for manually starting charge on the battery. First of all, switching over to Charger Only does not interrupt power but it also does not start charging the battery. The solution instead was to use a different switch - Keep batteries charged.

This immediately starts charging the battery and switching back to “Optimised with BatteryLife” will switch back to running the loads off the MultiPlus II. I can probably automate this with Home Assistant or NodeRED so it only happens when there is excess solar, using data from MyEnergi.
