Hi,
Newbie here.
I have a Victron Energy Temperature Sensor for Victron Energy BMV-702/712 in my offgrid solar system.
It is wired correctly to my 712 shunt.
It USED TO give accurate readings (degrees F). Worked fine for several months.
Now, it shows very low readings. An infrared thermometer reads 55 degrees F, the Victron Temp Sensor shows 15 degrees F.
I think its defective (it has a 5 year warranty). The dealers says “I don’t think it has a 5 year warranty because it is just a couple wires and no electronics”
I’d say 2 things: First, get a better dealer. It does indeed have a 5-year warranty, though it may be difficult to file an actual claim since as I recall the serial number is on the packaging, which you may not have anymore… and at the price, I don’t know that anyone would have bothered opening a warranty claim on one before, since typically it would cost you more to send it back to the place of purchase, have them test it, and have them send you another one than it would to just buy a new one… but it’s warranted, yes.
Second, though, I’ve never heard of one of these going bad -not to say it’s impossible, but it’s certainly an oddity. Have you checked the connections (at both ends) and the inline fuse on the red wire? Loose connections or a degraded fuse could cause erroneous readings.
Isn’t it so that for products without a serial number on the product itself, one cannot require a serial number for a warranty claim? In such cases all you (the dealer) can ask for, is an invoice, or any other evidence that this product was purchased at a certain place/date.
“Cannot” is probably a function of your local governing regulations, I can’t really speak to that. Invoice should certainly work for the dealer side I’d think.
I considered that, and you might be right, but the reading on my app clearly shows units of degrees F. Maybe I’ll change it to read C, then change it back to read F.
