I have just installed all the needed wiring for a BMV-712. I am positive that I have it wired correctly. However I am not getting a reading on the monitor. It is for the starter battery on my boat. AGM and single. It is fully charged. There is current to the shunt and the positive (temperature) wires from shunt to positive terminal. I can only think that my monitor is faulty. Is this likely? What else could be the cause? thanks
Show picture of the installation?
However I can assure you that I have moved the cable that used to carry the full negative current from my load to the negative terminal on my battery now goes to the “Load’ side of the shunt. Then I have a new cable connecting to the shunt labelled “to terminal"’ that goes to the negative terminal.
Then I have a temperature reading wire combined with the positive wire going from the side of the shunt to the positive terminal.
Then I have connected the monitor that is mounted in the cabin to the side of the shunt.
The battery is a start battery if that makes a difference.
The monitor does not show anything- either no current is going to it or that it is not functional.
Or?
Thanks again.

Do you have the correct temperature sensor for the BMV 712. Type ASS000100000. If you have the wrong temperature sensor it will not work.
Ah-ha! I did not know this. I have no idea if it is the “right" temperature sensor. I am afraid that I do not have a local expert in my area- I purchased the temperature sensor on-line. How do I tell what the correct one is?
BTW- I did test the system by removing my temperature sensor wires and replacing it with the positive wire that came with the BMV kit and hooked it up. My monitor still did not respond. Hmmmm.
If you look at the links I sent they have different numbers, if the photo is to be belie ved than it should have the yellow label.
if you have a direct positive wire connected to the B+ (not the aux) terminal can you check with a multimeter that you have 12V. The only other thing is the cable from shunt to monitor, try swapping this to opposite ends or another cable if you have one.
Otherwise it sounds like you might have a bad unit, go back to your supplier.
I do not have the original packaging, but my unit did come with the yellow label attached. And even if it is the wrong temperature wire, the fact that I tried to get the unit to work with the enclosed, original, positive shunt to positive terminal only wire should have engaged the monitor. I also have current from positive terminal to positive shunt and current from negative shunt to negative terminal.
I have already installed the shunt to monitor firmly in place, including fishing it through a cabinet and cabin floor. I see now that I should have waited to test everything first. I will see if I can find another cable to do the test. If not, I guess I could undo all my installing work (sigh) but it seems unlikely this is the cause of the problem.
Since I do not have a local Victron dealer, I used the internet to order the product(s). I hope it will not be a problem to return and replace a faulty monitor should this be the cause.
Obviously not happy, but not much I can do.
Again, thanks for your help.
