I’m trying to add bluetooth to the BMV700 display. Victron sells a dongle but the plug connector on it sticks out about 1 inch. My space is limited and this won’t fit so I’m wondering if there are any alternatives (ie a 90 degree connector adapter that would limit how far the cable connector sticks out behind the display? Or could I cut off the connector and add a right angle one?
The VE.Direct connector is a JST PH2.0, theres ready made extensions with a plug and socket at either end since the PH connector is a relatively common type. Theres no 90° plug, but the bare plug does not protrude out of the socket very much
Thanks for the additional information. Since the actual plug is short (it’s the plastic plug it’s enclosed in I’m guessing to protect the connection)… do you think it’s possible to cut the wire, cut the insulation wrap back to expose the x number of wires… then put a new plug on, and perhaps use some tape or shrink wrap to make it all less then 1 inch that sticks out of where it plugs in?
Its possible, thats not a particularly small cable. Cut it, wrap the shielding/braid back, secure it with a piece of shrink tubing, crimp new connectors on, put a new PH plug onto the connectors. Ive done a few XH and PH cables over the years, things are small but its manageable. Just get a set, not just four crimp connectors, you’re going to loose one almost guaranteed. Ive probably lost more crimp connectors than i actually successfully crimped
But do you really want to do this when theres premade extensions available that do the same thing?
Ah… you’re so kind as I was coming back to make the point you did originally above (after it dawned on me what you explained) . Just buy an available male/female connector and use that. Duh on me. 
Is it safe to assume this connector always has 2 wires? So something like this would work?
