Accessing Venus GX via Victron connect app

Hi,

I am in need of some help.

Recently, there was a storm that damaged our internet provider’s router through the phone line, and it seems it may have also damaged the Ethernet port on the Venus GX. After replacing the router, there has been no network connection to the Venus GX at all. Only one solid led at ethernet port is on showing it has power but no sign of light from the second one showing any active data connection.

I was able to connect to the Venus GX through its Wi-Fi hotspot, but the connection was unstable. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not. At one point it briefly connected to our home Wi-Fi, but it disconnected again almost immediately.

I then tried performing a network reset using the reset button. Since then, I have not been able to access the admin interface anymore. When I try to open the device via its IP address in a browser, I only get a page related to a security profile setup.

I do not have touch screen, also the device does not have bluetooth, so I installed the VictronConnect app on my phone. I connected my phone to the Venus GX Wi-Fi network and I can see the device in the app, but when I try to access it, it asks for a password.

I do not know this password. The company that installed the entire solar setup claims they never configured any password on the device and they do not have one either. I checked the manual, but I could not find any mention of a default password. I also tried common options like 000000, but without success.

I found information in the manual saying that a factory reset can be performed using a file uploaded from a USB flash drive. However, the download link for the required file no longer exists.

I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed. I need to determine whether the entire Venus GX unit is damaged or if this is only a network-related issue. The device is quite expensive, so I would rather avoid replacing it unless it is clearly unusable.

Thank you.

What it means is someone set a password for the remote console (whether they remembered or not). Unfortunately if you don’t know it the only way is a reset.

Are you using https or http though, this could be the difference.

http://172.24.24.1 or http://venus.local either one should work when you are connected to the GX wifi

https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/software/venus-factory-default/venus-data-90-reset-all.tgz

The reset file downloads ok for me here.

You can have a screen on a venus GX if you are able to do this with an old tablet or phone.

Thank you for the valuable information. Thanks to it, I managed to regain access to the device. Unfortunately, the Ethernet port proved to be non-functional, but at least the Wi-Fi is back and working, although somewhat unstably.
