I have 3 Victron controllers. 2 of which are the 100 20 MPPT. The first one has been working flawlessly for over a year. I just got a 2nd one. VERY simple connection. Battery (Lead Acid Deep Cycle), solar controller, and panels. Battery is charged. Solar panels operating, tested with 2 solar generators. Controller is getting power, used BT connection via app to configure. Using battery preset with Deep Cycle 2 (also tried others). Charging is on. I was able to update the software to the latest version (perhaps I shouldn’t have App show 0 watts, but good voltage. Jumper cable is out. Fuse is good. Disconnected and tried again. Lights on controller are operating. Any ideas?
You need to be methodical and precise, often these situations are a poor connection somewhere or poor breaker or blown fuse on either battery side or PV side. One thing that people forget is solar needs to be 5V above battery voltage to start charging. Get your multimeter out and check voltages at each connection. Show a screen shot of your mppt. Also, check short circuit current on your panels, voltage alone without a load does not show up poor connections. Once you have some proper data you can gives us come back.
I get it, things get complicated.; This is not :). In installed a different victron controller in its place and bingo, all good. Packaged up the defective unit and with Amazon I will have my refund in hours. The unit was indeed defective.
