Wind power

Is it possible to have a wind turbine controller with Victron products? Currently, my MPPT and my wind MPPT don’t talk to each other, so I can’t combine the two charges. When the solar is on, the wind turbine never works. I’m thinking of switching to Victron solar MPPTs to solve this problem. On a sailboat

Hi have a read of this thread below it might help.

You cant use a solar MPPT with a wind turbine as its power source, at least not Victron units. Use a dedicated wind generator controller. There have been other threads discussing this.

If both chargers are set to the same settings, for example 14.2V absorption and 13.6V float, then their charge algorithms will inherently synchronise.

A wind generator controller that switches a dump load onto the DC side/battery is wild to me. The thing you want to prevent is the generator speed rising too high, so you could add the dump load onto the AC side and it would not affect the rest of the system

One can use a Victron MPPT with a wind controller, but it would need to be oversized to take into account the possible peak output from a 50 knot gust. Also, you would need to limit the max output current to prevent it from burning out the wind gen. You would also need to monitor the DC input / wind gen frequency in order to switch in the dump load / short on the AC side to prevent the gen from over-speeding. In no way would this be recommended for a beginner, only an expert with the resources for testing.
