I have the SmartSolar MPPT 150/100 and the Phoenix 1200/24 inverter.
I calculated 3 awg for the wiring size on the battery side.
The only 3 awg lugs I’ve found have large ends that will not plug into the battery inputs.
Does anyone know of a source for 3 awg lugs that taper to a small end that will fit into these Victron devices?
Have you found 3AWG wire? I’ve never seen that in the US, so have no idea where to go for lugs for them (and I’m with a lug distributor). Is it too late to just size up to 2AWG, since those lugs are easy to find?
But also, it’s worth noting (unclear as to which end you’re referring to, the battery side or the device side) that for the inverter battery input and the MPPT battery output, in both cases bare wire (proper high-strand DC wire as shown in the manuals) should be inserted into their respective cable clamps and tightened appropriately, no ferrules or lugs needed.
Yes, I’ve already purchased 3AWG wire and the matching lugs.
I’m currently only using the bare wire into the inverter and controller (using a smaller gauge wire), but I thought it would be a cleaner connection using a lug. Also, the 3AWG wire is much too big in diameter to fit into the cable clamps on the Victron devices.
