What else do I need to use PowerAssist on the MultiPlus-II 12v 3000 2x 120v in an RV? (current sensor?)

Hi. I have a MultiPlus-II 12v 3000 2x 120v arriving in a few days along with a Cerbo-S and Touch-7, and of course some batts.
I bought this system purely with the intent to use PowerAssist in at least 2 different situations, coming up in just a few weeks.
I need to know if I need to purchase anything else to enable this? I ask because the “datasheet” for the model says that I need an optional current sensor, yet I can’t find this sensor for sale anywhere (in Canada).
Then I read the online manual, and there is zero mention of where you would ever connect this sensor to the MP2. Could it no longer be needed?
Finally, if I do need a sensor, is this to measure the AC input power (where place)?
Any help appreciated. Thanks! Shawn

Hello,

here the sitiation where you can need it in this setup (The AC1 Out of the Multiplus is not directly used):

So the external sensor will help to calculate the toal AC In power…

Couple notes:

  • NO Solar. My source priorities are primarily:
  1. Grid,
  2. sometimes use a small generator, & lastly,
  3. use batteries.
  • I mentioned 2 scenarios where I need/want PowerAssist:
    A) a location where I have access to the grid, but it’s through a long extension cord on a light circuit; normally it can’t even start my Air/C (and i want it to!).
    B) Off grid and using my small generator, again, almost able to start my Air/C but the Geny is basically in overload at this point.
If I can clarify anything else please let me know. I really need advice here as I see conflicting info on if I need that current sensor for my application. I would call myself a fairly well experienced DIY’er with electrical, but I am new to Victron.
    Thanks! Shawn

Thank you @Xabi ! I’m still not clear if I need it. Please let me add these details:

  • No Solar
  • I will be physically switching between the Grid & Generator (only 1 input to MultiPlus-II, only one at a time)
  • ALL my Grid/GenSet power will go through the MultiPlus and ALL my Loads will come out of the MultiPlus (ie they will ALL be “No break loads”).

Does this eliminate the need for the sensor?

Assuming your RV is wired up so that all of your AC loads go through the MP2 (if you’re unplugged from shore and turn off the MP2 all AC power should go away) you do not need the current sensor.
