VictronConnect lacks permissions to access the local network, there is no setting in ios to enable

When I connect to a Cerbo GX’s built in AP (no network on this location) and open victronconnect app on Ios I see it when connecting via bluetooth.
Since I want to configure it I need to access the remote console, however there is no remote console button.
When I click ‘Don’t see the product you were looking for?’ button the troubleshoot menu shows me:
‘VictronConnect lacks permission to access the local network, required for searching GX or other LAN/WiFi products. Enable it in the app settings’

When I click open app permissions I am taken to the ios settings app and see the victron connect permissions.
This list of permissions does not contain a ‘Local Network Permission’
So I am unable to enable this.

I did enable the bluetooth permission when the app first opened, there was no request for local network. I deleted and reinstalled the app, no change.

In ios settings I see:
Bluetooth (enabled)
apple Intelligence en siri (everything enabled)
search (everything enabled)
mobile data (enabled)

version 6.17(1)
App developer Victron Energy
Get support (not working)

I have the same issue, local network acces has moved to the Privacy and security settings but Victron connect is not in the list for apps to enable local access

@JohnT As a start, the latest version is 6.19. Have you updated?

Yes, it is 6.19. I already resetmy privacy and security settings in a hope to solve this. But it seems the app does not trigger the local network access request.

I migrated to a new iPhone and afterwards the app does not pick up anything on my local network anymore. Importantly the app does not prompt me for network permissions and I can’t set network permissions via the iPhone settings route. I can see on the old old phone that it has permissions to access Local Network but it does not appear on the new iPhone. The app has to request the permission, I can’t add it and the app is not requesting permissions. I tried to remove and re-install the app but that made no difference and it is still not showing devices.

When I got to the self diagnose section it has a “Open app permissions” which then tells you to “Please enable Local Network permissions in the setting” and if you click on settings, it taks you to a settings screen for the app which does not include Local Networking as an option to enable. A logic issue somewhere in the iPhone app?

If you enable and connect to the local access point, you can access the remote console via venus:local in your browser to configure it.

Yes correct that works but the app for the iphone is broken😉

Hi @cbr

You’ve experienced two different problems.

The visibility of the “REMOTE CONSOLE” button has been fixed in VictronConnect 6.19, released last week.

This action opens the remote console via the web browser, so there are no permissions required for VictronConnect about the Local Network. You can be connected to the Cerbo GX via Bluetooth, and it will work if your phone it’s connected to the AP.

On the other hand, about the Local Networks devices not appearing in the device list, this is something we need to investigate in more detail.

@mpalavecino I was able to bypass this issue by browsing to http://venus.local in my browser, however for a first setup it would have been nice if the normal expected path in the application was working (It was hard to find documentation since no network at this site)

The remote console button that opens this url in the browser should indeed already fix the biggest issue and would have let me proceed at that time.

The request for the local network just doesn’t pop up, I looked at

where its proposed to reset location and privacy settings: sing Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy.
However that made no change (The request for bluetooth access came again, but no request for local network access.)

I do noticed that page mentions:

iOS 18 has a bug (FB14321888) that can cause the in-memory and persistent state of local network privacy to get out of sync after changing the user preference multiple times. This bug was fixed in iOS 18.6. If you encounter unexpected behavior on iOS 18, update to iOS 18.6 or later.

I’m on iOS 18.5, and don’t see an update for 18.6, I’ll check back see in a few days.

I’m having the same problem. Local network access has been moved to the Privacy and Security settings, but Victron Connect isn’t listed as an app that allows local access.

I’ve already updated my iPhone and the app.

Has anyone solved this?

Regards.

I am having the same issue with local acces. I am using Ios 26 public beta. Also no option to enable local network acces for the VE app

I have the same issue. With the latest update, I have no longer access to the local network. Maybe that would help investigating the issue:

Just after an update, I wanted to add Cerbo GX, but it was not visible on the main devices list. I went to “Don’t see the product you were looking for?“ and here I got info alert that app lacks permission to local network. I clicked “Open app permissions“. In settings I saw that toggle is switched ON. At that point I reinstalled the app. After fresh installation, I went to iOS victron app settings and here I couldn’t see the local network toggle at all. The same in Privacy & Security section in iOS settings. I think this is completely broken in the latest update.

Just wanted to voice i have the same problem on my ios devices.

Yep, just updated victron connect to latest release and stil have same issue on ios 18.7 and ios 26

I think i have the same problem.

Victron Connect Problem after Iphone software updated.

Yesterday morning (September 18, 2025) I updated my Iphone to the latest operating system, IOS 26.0.
Now, on my Iphone, the Victron Connect app will not connect to my Cerbo GX Rpi, via either of my two LAN routers.

Yesterday afternoon, the GX Rpi icon would not even show up on the Victron Connect Device List. I reinstalled the Victron Connect app twice, each time to no avail.

This morning (September 19, 2025), I reinstalled the Victron Connect app a third time, and the GX Rpi finally showed up on the Device List; however, the app still will not connect to the GX Rpi via either router.

I spoke to Apple Iphone technical support and all they could do was to recommend that I contact Victron and ask Victron to do whatever is needed to enable the app to communicate through my iPhone.

I also have a MacBook laptop that still works fine with both my routers. Consequently, I am confident that the problem is with the Iphone’s app.

The MacBook laptop also has a new, updated operating system ready for installation that I will not be installing until I figure things out.

Hopefully, the problem is on Victron’s end, and Victron will fix the problem soon.

We can’t reproduce this issue.

Anyway we’ve made some changes in latest version (v6.21) that might help.

Can you try again and let us know if the issue is fixed now for you?

@jperez Weird, I just tried again with 6.21 (already tried 2 days ago and had same issue) but now my cerbo gx is showing up in the lan. And the ‘local network’ permission is enabled in the victron connect settings.

On my ipad opening the app requested the local network permissions, and after approving it also shows up, so indeed fixed in 6.21 with latest ios 18/ipados 26

but it surely was not fixed on the 18th, did you enable some feature flags today?

So solved for me now.

Yes, we included some changes in v6.21 aiming to fix this issue.

Glad to hear that the issue is fixed for you.

@jperez

Thank you for your reply, but the problem persists with my iPhone.

This morning (September 20, 2025) I reinstalled Victron Connect v6.21 (which is the same version I previously tried using) and still cannot connect to the GX with my iPhone. Again, I can see the GX icon when I open Victron Connect, but when I click on the icon, all I see is a blank screen.

However, I was able successfully to connect to the GX via “venus.local” by typing that address into the Safari browser on my iPhone. Even then, part of the bottom of the screen on my iPhone is cut off from view where I should be seeing my Gui mod devices.

My GX is connected to my router via ethernet cable.

When you tried to reproduce the issue were you using an iPhone with IOS v26.0 like I am?

Thank you for your support!
