Victron smart solar and Victron Energy Blue Smart 15 A

I have solar charging in my caravan with Victron SMART SOLAR MPPT 75/15. Since I have a 12 volt refrigerator and when it is cloudy the charge is not enough, I want to be able to charge the batteries with Victron Energy Blue Smart 15 A charger. What is the best way to connect them?

Do you have a SmartShunt or BMV ? If so, one way to do it is connect as follows:

  • Charger + to the battery bus positive [+] (good idea to have a fuse in between the charger and battery +).
  • Charger - to the load side of the Shunt, so that it measures current in/out.

If this happens often, the Blue Smart charger usually comes with a removable pair of alligator clips and a pair of M8 terminals. You might permanently wire the M8 terminals into your system.

Good luck!

Hello everyone

Maybe I was unclear with my question. I want to feed the same battery with two devices, Victron SMART SOLAR and Victron Energy Blue charger. Can these devices be connected in parallel to the same battery?

In my opinion, using a busbar is the best way to connect chargers, consumers and battery in this type of installation. In my case I have the same solution for my van, using the busbar with also fuses and a main switch to disconnect battery for maintenance.

It uses more space, of course, but is a clean solution to interconnect the devices.

Best regards

Simple answer is yes!

If you use the IP22 blue smart charger, you can also create a VE smart network for synchronised charging to an extent.

Although to be clear, the IP22 does not slave its bulk/absorption/float transitions to the SmartSolar controller. Each device runs its own adaptive charging algorithm based on its independent voltage readings or received sensor data. (AI sourced text)
