Victron Multiplus II energy meter

Hi. I’m new here.

So, I have a couple PVs of different types and microinverters. I’d like to go for batteries without changing all of that, so I was thinking of a Multiplus II with batteries as backup.

As far as I could see, it needs a current monitoring, but I’d be placing it far from the main power, so wiring it directly to the Victron won’t be possible. Is there an alternative for the current monitoring over a distance?

Thanks

Depending on this distance, you will have to run either ethernet or RS-485 cables to the remote location with the meter. There are also less-reliable wireless approaches you can build yourself, including using wifi bridging.

Depends on how you want to use the Multiplus. If just as an emergency backup, NOT using ESS functions, then the Multiplus has its own internal AC monitoring. Your PV inverters can remain connected to the AC in. Critical loads to AC out, but then the PV will not work when on Battery backup. Looks like anything else will need a lot of rewiring.

It’s exactly the same for me. I chose to measure with the Shelly 1PM and 3EM, and they work perfectly in the Victron system.

The Shelly 3EM measures all currents in and out of the house to the utility grid on three phases, and the 1PM measures the power of a microinverter.

Ignore the many warnings about too slow regulation due to the lower data rate of the Shelly meters. They don’t play a relevant role in practice.
