Victron Multi RS Solar 48V - 6000VA - does not follow ESS grid setpoint

Hello all, I recently switched from a Multiplus II 5000VA to the Victron Multi RS Solar 48V - 6000VA (software 1.28)
It all works great however I have one problem.

I used to set the ess grid setpoint to the same value as my car charger’s power. In other words, with this setting, I ignored the car charger in the ESS, preventing the car being charged from the battery.

I use the modbus integration in Home Assistant.
sensor in home assistant:

  • name: ‘ESS setpoint’
    unit_of_measurement: “W”
slave: 100 #HUB - Slave is your device ID you found when looking in the Device List on the Victron GX.
    address: 2700
    data_type: int16
    scan_interval: 10
    device_class: power

In the past this works flawlessly. However with the multi RS nothing happens. I tried all the other modbus adresses as well.
2700, 2703, 2716, 4610 and 4922.

Even changing the value in victron connect does not work.

There is a workaround by doing it with max discharge power. However this setpoint option was an easy way without interfering with the controls of DESS.
Did someone solve this issue?

Do you use the Victron 3p 75ct energy meter?

I have also the Rs 6000, but ess mode “Optimized without battery life” is only working correctly if ess mode is set to “external control”

You may try this mode.

Grid Setpoint ONLY WORKS when DESS is disabled. If you have DESS enabled, grid setpoint will be ignored on Multi RS.

I have 3 phase Multi RS setup and I tried something similar in the past when I noticed I could set the setpoint to any value without effect, unless I disable DESS.

I have external control active. And I’m using the VM-3P75CT. However still unable to control grid setpoint when DESS is active.

Ok, strange, it worked with the old Multiplus II. Do you know if this option will be supported in the near future?

The Multiplus works with the “old” ESS assistant, the Multi RS has completely different firmware. If it will be enabled in the future? Probably not because it would totally mess up the DESS behaviour.

If you don’t want the car charger to charge from battery, you could place the VM-3P75CT behind the charger. But you have to keep in mind that the grid currents are not measuring correctly and you might blow your main fuses.

Or buy a Victron charger..
